Susie,
Nice shot. One thing that I noticed about this shot was that the cliffs in the background takes away from the subj. For me, a tight crop around the kayaker would draw the eye right to the subj of the shot. Just a couple of thoughts from an amateur photographer.

Hi Susie,
Another great shot!
I think what makes this shot work is that one gull that is bent over with it's beak in the water. If all the gulls were more or less in the same position, it would not have been nearly as effective.
