Lovely bright sunny colours. I find ports are always full of potential for great shots. Nice one, John.

That is quite some detail you have brought out, John!

Wonderful range of tones and light. The sweep of the mini-dunes leads the eye to the storm in the distance.

This is the effect of continental drift and global warming on Europe. You will notice that the Straits of Gibraltar have widened substantially, while the UK has become totally submerged. France and Spain are pushed ever closer together, and while southern Italy is now under water, a new range of mountains has risen to the west - a new bridge will shortly be completed creating a direct link to southern Spain. Scandinavia appears relatively unchanged...

Many thanks for your comment, Gary. Yes, I agree the Sigma needs careful handling to get good results. I try to ensure a shutter of at least 1/500 when using full zoom handheld. I had a version of this ready to upload that I had processed normally, and was most surprised when I reprocessed it and found this level of detail hidden in the shadows.

Many thanks, Ray - I'm enjoying the ride! I was actually not particularly close, but the lens did its job at 300mm.

For this I experimented with generating the HDR image from TIFFs instead of JPGs. But I can see no difference in the results, at least in images destined for the screen.

That is quite a scene of devastation. Very well documented - your photograph alone tells much of the story. The snow and ice give an additional dimension - I had assumed they were foam used to douse the flames and only realised this was not so from your comments.

Many thanks, Stan. Glad you like the processing. I produced five different exposures in Lightroom. I generated the HDR image and did the tone mapping in PhotoMatix.

Beautifully sharp - you have done well to have the sparrow stand out so well against the busy and similarly toned background. And yet there is enough detail in the background to give a good sense of the location. I also like the inclusion of the branch and half-eaten berries.

Thanks Ania. The details are a result of the processing - no doubt some will dislike the harshness.

PS. I have a small photo project in mind for this evening, and on my way will be walking through Old Town - I will keep my eyes open for the kitten on the wall!

Thanks Susie. Again, this is one that I had no intention of posting anywhere until I applied this type of processing - and suddenly the people emerged from the gloom!

What a wonderful room. I had to check the comments to find out why the house is now empty, and of course the reason is very sad. I hope that it can be reoccupied soon and will not fall into disrepair in the meantime.

The image has great tonal range. I like the mirror at the far end, and the way you have concealed yourself behind the lamp.

Thank you, Saad. I see what you mean about the clouds. And now looking again I see that the top layer of cloud appears somewhat heavy. Your comment is much appreciated - it helps me see things that could be improved.

Oops... there appears to be huge sadness in this image. A harsh, eye-catching image that is all the more intense against the white background.

Actually, having just reviewed my comment and looked again at the image, I think the floor covering is fine and helps anchor the scene - but the red could go!

Nice to "meet" you, Shadi. I like the overall softness, pose and images in the background.

An excellent image. I see you have CC'd this - my only comment would be that you might consider removing the red at bottom left and black/white floor covering.

This looks like a wonderful place. I think your choice of centrally positioning the main subject in a square frame works very well. The trees in the foreground help give the image greater depth, as does the detail in the eroded slopes behind.
