I am sorry sir. Even though she has a smile, this image scares the
hell out of me. Well done. john B

Medicine Lake the on-again off-again half water filled karst lake. I applaude you for getting off the roads unlike the tourists like me and getting unique views. Strange place.

this is wonderful and deserves BIP. You might try rotating to put the darker and visually heavier tiles on the bottom. Only you know the real orientation.

good job - John B

well seen. if you have the software, you might consider selecting one side, copy it paste, flip left right and flatten. It adds symetry and is spooky in its results as you can see below. Or not. YOU are the artists here. thanks for sharing

I love the effect of the low lighting on the dunes and grasses. The sun is too bright and steals attention from the rest of the really good stuff. I would and did crop for comparison. Good seeing.

AJ - I see your point. The reason its so long is that it wiil be part of a photo show I've been asked to present. In that show, the layout of the various pieces calls for a strong, hard and long image at that location. So I've left it a bit long. In context it looks better (I hope). Thanks for stopping by.

Yes, Ian. It is poetic. Thats why I stole it from a poet!

"When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?"

William Blake

I wonder at what giants of his ceativity would have
done in today's world. Thanks for lookin in.

I am not an expert...but...
Its my understanding that the flash itself happens very very fast. In some cases in a few millionths of a second. this is much faster than a shutter could ever hope to match. There is also the issue of coordinating the time of flash with the 1/500 or so of time that the shutter is open. Perhaps a more productive path would be this. Dim the ambient light so you can leave the shutter open for many seconds (low ASA/ISO and high f number help). Then fire the flash manually when you see the drop where you want it. Let the flash and perhaps a white card reflector provide all the light for proper exposure. I did this in school and we got great images of the inside of a breaking ballon.(we triggered the strobe by sound). Its a thought anyway. Good Luck.

Actually Michel, I liked the winter version better. the building to the right does not add very much to the image IMHO. Cheers John B

I like this image. I like it alot. It lingered in my vision asking me why do I feel incomplete. After much tought, I think its contrast. Contrast between the very sharp details of everything pier and foreground and the very soft water. My mind keeps looking for detail there and does not find any. My failure? perhaps but I AM the critic in this case. Cheers and I still like this image.

Marek - a wonderfull image. If there is any problem it is this. The faint
lightening around the boy is just a little too obvious. Perhaps if it was a little bigger with a softer gradient? Excellent work. Not all photographs need to be pretty/

Standing near the shadows of Brassi it seems. Perhaps one of the ghosts decending the stairs knew him! A charming self portrait and I applaud your skills in crafting this image. Perhaps some day I shall visit Paris. John B

Very nice Sandra. My only complaint is the dark brush in the foreground. It takes away from the field of white. Otherwise its wonderful.

I had not imagined how melencholy one could feel, seeing the tatered facets of an inverted and trucated icosohedron. NICE CAPTURE. Invokes a rather medieval mood to us bleached bright by the sun in Kalifornia. Cheers John B

How do these sorts of things look if you set them a good bit off center, does the illusion of face work more or....less. good vision fella.

Okay Ian, you have been busy of late and so I can understand it when you make a mistake. And since you are such a creative artist, I will ignore most all of those mistakes. This one however, is SOOO egrigious I can not let it slide.

You got ORION upside down!

Oh yeah, Kiwi view....javascript:AddSmileyIcon('')

You would be amazed at how WRONG this looks to me!
On the other hand I have never seen the Southern Cross
so what do I know.

The flash is going off in about 1/millionth of a second or so. That freezes the rain drops and you get no motion blur that I think you want to suggest. Perhaps darken the background by say shooting at dusk under a street lamp so the light shows the drops and the subject but the background remains dark. FWIW, I would shoot the the child from the side. You still would know what he is doing but we dont have to look into his mouth which frankly is not that appealling to this critic. Cheers and keep on shooting. JB
