E*x*c*e*l*l*e*n*t! Perfect control of focus for creating the scene, that might have been different in reality but reveals its essence on the image! The concentration of focus on the foreground and the gradual dissolving of the depth takes much of the importance of the walking person! It is only a person, who knows who, walking on the *street* - the scene itself! I've seen many street images but just a few of them manage to draw its special kind of isolation as well as this images does!

Hat off again!

Claude -- Another masterpiece where light and color is so well controlled. Besides the lovely models and intriguing sets and costumes, every detail later in your post processing is obviously aimed at achieving perfection. Most impressive. Your work is reminiscent to me of a technique and style employed with large format cameras back in the 60's and 70's.

Tough shot Phillip . . . I like the composition very much but the lighting must be very tricky. The extremes between the whites and the blacks in this image make it nicely 'contrasty' (It's an industry term, I swear) and the B&W was the ideal choice to emphasize the forms and lines. That said, I'd have preferred to see the candles less exposed so that some of the detail could be enjoyed, adding yet another dimension to the textures in the image. Likely that would have created an overall darker image, but some ambient light source behind you might have balanced it well. (Say . . . a candle or two? Or a bounced, diffused flash?)

Just some thoughts, How's things going Mate?

Doyle I <~~~~~

Well about the space above, you know there are things that quite too often we do not see but imagine. and in here if you think that that part over the imagined head is too much then crop it, but i do not find anything missing in this composition apart for just a little more space below! maybe half an inch!
however i like the high contrast and the melted wax used here, but more i like the feeling it brings forth!

V.

I'm drawn to silhouetted patterns and reflections on water. Bicycles also remind me of individual, mobile freedom. I like this image. But, I'm wondering if it's not a little to busy and dark. Stepping (or Zooming) back a bit would give the bicycle room to complete its form, maybe leaving the wheels just touching the bottom of the frame. I also wonder if a little fill flash would help give each patterned element chance to be co independent.

Great eye, Avi, this type of realization seems very cinematic
Reminds of a Batman- Spider man type of scene, the golden yellow with the red contrast is very appealing, you know personally love this form of perspectives the only thing found not necessary is the white line, I think it takes away the attraction and minimized to typical stereo type posting!
All my best!!

You must know how I admire your work... so, maybe I can add a little reserve, using for instance this picture...
You add few but efficient post-process effects on your pictures. One of them (clarity ?) adds often halo around the subjects, and intensify dramatically the sky.
Honestly, I like this effect, but not when it becames too visible. And alas, it is sometimes the case on your pictures, and more often on picture of other photographs.
Please, John, let my know you opinion at this subject !

The inclusion of the running person in that perepective adds somethiung very live that stands in good contrasts to the rest of the rather still scene. With some smaller focus problems at the depth this is a very nice geometry in which the human can evolve to a protagonist, but still being in a surrounding scene that remains important. And this makes it even more interesting to me - to catch the protagonist but to not forget that any protagonist needs an adequate scene! I think you mastered this very well here, Sandip!

Best wishes,

Nick

This shot is striking. That's one amazingly shallow dof you've managed to nail for yourself there. The colour and shapes almost lend themselves to the realm of abstract. Just fantastic.

Had this one open last night, but got distracted. Curse Grey's Anantomy! ;D Seems I have to get my drama and scandal fix from television these days. What happened to the forum here? It's as dead as a dead thing from dead land. Not even Kambizz is around any more to spice things up!

Sheesh, something better explode soon for my money's worth, I tell ya...

Thanks for the visit Robin :)
Cheers,
Rina.

Superb capture for Alone project Fabrice, you caught outstanding mood, pose, feelings of this man in a crowd ... fine tones ... so very emotional and deep ... although you mean it could be funny ... you mean it is a great lost being in such a state of mind and emotions when we are able to be happy in so many ways ....
Excellent done !!!!

It has pierced my heart and has made me very very emotional. It has made me nostalgic and after looking at it I've spent almost an hour remembering all the good and bright days I've spent with my father. Now, when I am living a shelfish life far away from them, it gave me a few wonderful moments and has triggered the urge in me to fight my way back home.

So, you can imagine the power in this photograph.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Nice composition ruben... I like the b+w for a change but color is my favorite...in general. Good light on the water... but the clouds look a bit different than normal...might be some post editing (?)) Regardless the presentation is great as it leads the eye from the bottom of the image to the top!!!!!
A very pleasant view my friend ! also like the frame:))

'Holy Smoke' - What a Shot. It is one of the best smoke shot I have seen. Wonderful formation of the smoke - and an equally beutiful composition by you which covers the smoke from one corner to another diagonally. I just wished the background to be uniform - specially those two blue and white out of focus spots in the left bottom corner are drawing some attention unnecessarily. Except those little nit - this shot is of a true class. Wonderful Effort.

This is a wonderful portrait, and all this talk of improving it is in my opinion completely unnecessary.... the soft tones work an absolute treat for me. They give the image a grace and subtlety that is often all too lacking in portrait photography, particularly of beautiful women. 7++++

Okay Ian, I have gone back over this entire series of yours. In my eyes, this one is the best. I'm not a fan of color noise or colour noise for that matter. I appreciate what you seem to be trying to do but despite the lack of bejeweling, this is my favorite. What I enjoyed the least was the broad swaths of color noise in the background. I did like it when limited to the bird alone. i also liked the range of forms you tried even if the results left me wanting something else. You continue to inspire me. Perhaps I should move to a home with softer light and try more of the mystic and let myself free. Cheers fella. John B

...and so that one, I like a lot the small 'lines' as details to each light... gives the feeling of motion and mostly like a shot taken in long exposure using a macroscope! like tiny chain worms attack each other! Cool!!!

Hi Len,
Wonderful thought provoking picture. It brought tears to my eyes when I read how many fathers, brothers, and someone's sons had die in the construction of the railway. Thank you Len for posting this photo, it reminds me how much we should be grateful to those men who gave their lives in all wars so that we may live in freedom.

Dear Mehul,

I am really impressed by this photo.
you manage to display the strength of the three, his life and ability to live and stand alone..
But also it give’s me a several messages; that sometime we have to stand alone and build our staircase to happiness.. but in that moments when we think that we are all alone we have to remember that we have a friends.. family.. lovers.. pets.. such as three.. but his family is eart, rain is a friend , wind is a lover and the birds are his pets..

So my friend the sky is not a limit..and we are never alone..

..you know..for the moment you shared the spirit and energy with this three..

I hope that it felt good!! Thank you for sharing!!

Stay beautiful!!

everything in this portrait is very fascinating... i love the contrast between the rusty relics of modern civilization (well, today i'm in the mood for poetic comments... :>) and the stunning beauty and simplicity of the traditional dress... the point of view underlines powerfully the phisical presence of the girl... i love the clouds floating in the clear cold sky and the wind caressing her hair, while the rest of the picture is perfecly still...
and of course the model has got all my approval... :)
simply one of my favourite portraits. straight in my favs!

In my opinion i think you should have gone a little closer to the boat maybe;i want a bit more detail on the pasengers of the boat. The sunspots on the water is excellent and ad a bit of mysterie.Do i see some noise or is it just the D70 ? (Ha Ha ! just joking) Well done.

Great shot, these photos are always nice, presenting a hard job in greyscale. The fire sparks looks very nice and well freezed! Also you use smartly the camera so it is not underexposed as the super strong light could makes the image looks like .....dark!!! The result is perfect and that proof you did not JUST make the clic but you think a lot before act, congratulations, surely that shot worths a lot, not only because of its subject but also because of its technique!

Fabulous macro shot!!! Super DOF, great details, love it against that dark background and excellent (com)position... starting of in the corner... very well done!!!

;-DD

I really like the effect you achieved in this. The color, texture, and vignetting/fall-off make what might be a very cluttered scene in a 'straight-up' shot into a truly coherent composition that moves the viewer's eye through the frame in a flowing, harmonic stream.

I love these old carousels and this is a nice colourful shot of one.

But I hope you don't mind if I make a couple of comments that would in my view lead to an even stronger image. I know the design in the background is wonderful, but I feel it makes the image just a little too busy. It also leaves the image feeling a little static - maybe if you had panned just a little with the child (perhaps with a slightly slower shutter, though I don't know what you used), you could have introduced a little blur into the background. (Or was the background also revolving? In which case, of course, this was not an option...) I would also prefer to see the whole of the child's foot in the image.

what a big shame that no one has left a simpe, comment on this...
they shining mount from far away...is making me feel soooooooooooooooooooooooooo high and higher.
the wide angle shot has provided a lot of beautiful contrast between the close landscape to that far-fetched extraordinary mountain peaks...
and the sunlight is so impressively makeing me lik e i dont want to shut my eyes to this very majectic perspective of nature...

it's extremely fabulous and the natural colors are in a very very high and appealing contrast together that makes me fall in love with the environment...
i just love it...

you made my nature-lover feelings refreshed again by posting this outstanding shot...

good on you...

Ah yes, good to see the drinking straws are out again! Is this the start of a new series of a subject that you do so well?

Striking in its simplicity and colours.

Maybe Peter has a point though - I was looking for a real sharpness in the centre but it just doesn't seem quite there...
