About I almost missed this one...I spied it while whizzing by my bedroom window last week. This was definitely the last hoorah for this rose....we've had freezing weather ever since and it doesn't look quite so good now! :)

(Wasn't sure about the category...I haven't read the guidelines yet!)

You must have posted this one in my absence so I'm now moving backwards in your portfolio catching up. :)

This has such a fragile delicacy about it. It's refreshingly beautiful. Has a wonderful DOF and stunning colours and clarity. The details in the icy snow are amazing. All the little sparkles show up incredibly in the gorgeous light. A beautiful razor sharp shot Susie. Well seen and captured.

Thanks also for dropping by my Sunset Icicles image. I try to catch those warm red sunsets when they happen then look around for something to photograph against them. These ice images worked well for me I thought. Thank you for your encouraging words of support on all my images Susie.

Cheers - Ann :)

Hi Susie,
Just looking through and came across this one. Don't red and white go so nice together?
You got the snow looking real good in this one too. Our roses lasted much longer than usual this year too. I can't believe how warm it is going to be this week here.

Wonderful image, you couldn't pass this one up.
Nice details, expecially in the 'white stuff'.
Excellent capture!

A chilling shot Susie, it is interesting to see such a beautiful flower succumb to the power of Mother Nature - I wonder if you intervened after the shot, or decided not to mess with fate. Very crisp detail and just the texture of the snow alone could qualify for 'Patterns in Nature', something that could be interpreted in a way other than physical - how nature can create something and then end its life, which will be reborn in spring etc. It is great to see you present many aspects of life in Usefilm, all the best for 2006!

Superb capture Susie. The 'crispness' of the shot is almost tangible.
Happy holidays to you!
Best regards

Lovely and it makes one think philosophical things. I think it froze before it had the chance to drop its petals. It's better that way. Meant to be.

very nice flower.
You got the snow details very well.

looks like blood in the snow on the thumbnail.

Very bad new Usefilm display.
I hate it.
The Random thumbnails on the side are an interesting thing ,like to get attention on older pics.
Bersides that ,give me the old display, that was much better.

And no preview here any anymore.

Fantastic macro, Susie! I love the rose color and the crisp texture of the snow! Superb DOF! I attempted yesterday a few dead roses on the street (what a coincidence!), and none of them turned out - the light was poor, and the wind was blowing. Did you use a tripod? I bet you did! Anyway, great capture and perfect crop! Best regards, Ina

Beautiful capture Susie. I would say it's a perfect winter/christmas greeting card! Nice selection of focus on the snow. Not too many colors, which works pretty well, so does the square framing.

Loved it. Thanks for your comments on my posting.

Cheers

I know where you are coming from, Susie! I do stuff different a lot as well, and it's hard to remember. I was thinking of keeping a notebook, but I would forget to write in it after the first few entries!

I don't have my PSE 3 installed on the computer since the 'reformat', but I am thinking that it does have the 'unsharp mask' ?? If so, you can put 20-60-0 into that (play around with the #'s, too) and see if it makes a difference. Usually that is enough to remove the haze. Adding a vignetting might give different results so you might want to do the 'defog' first. I honestly don't do this very often, but it's there if needed and an easy way to 'fix' an image :)

Hi Janet...I always feel a little sheepish when someones asks about what technique I used, because I usually can't remember! :) I do think I used a light vignetting on this. I remember wanting to "set" it in the photo a little.
I don't know how to do dehazing, is that a Photoshop CS thing? I've only got elements 3.
Thanks for any input you have!

Beautiful and chilling! Love the red contrasting against the snow. Great eye, Susie!

Can I ask if you did any vignetting? If not I wonder if it would benefit from a 'dehazing'...seems a little 'foggy' which is typical of digital slr images.
