This series of photos was taken outside the Kaiyuan Temple in Chaozhou, a little known city in the southeast corner of Guangdong province.
The beggars are omnipresent here, however some have moved on to the greener pastures of the old Guangji Bridge, an historic bridge that has just been rebuilt on the Han River and has a lot of tourist traffic. Note the various disabilities on display here. It's not a pretty picture, but it's a harsh fact of life in many parts of the world.
Finally, the photo seems better viewed in panoramic mode.
I guess this is the reality of distant places far from the help we come to expect here in Canada. A harsh perspective on life for some. Brings to mind how fortunate so many of us are with comparatively small discomforts.
