Many thanks for your detailed critique, Joggie. The initial objective of this session was to drip green water drops into white milk. After a while the green dye had got everywhere... I do have pure white drops and green drop/white milk combinations which I will no doubt post eventually!

Excellently done - agree with Doyle on the milk colour. Really think shifting the balnce to a pure white would make the image crisper and even better than it is already! Fine work AJ Joggie

Yes Doyle, but:
1) My thinking was also correct, in that I DID have to tape off the "Nikon specific" contacts in order to fool the D70s into thinking there was no flash mounted, leaving the central contact uncovered so that the flash still fired. ((And BTW, the flash is something from StarBuster, StarBlaster or somesuch, since I wasn't prepared to fork out for an SB800 when I couldn't be sure it would do the job. I did surreptitiously attempt to try an SB800 in the shop on my "modified" machine, but the shop assistant ripped the offending tape off before mounting the test model...)
2) Everything is going green these days. Even milk (if you leave it out of the fridge long enough...)

As of the form and the quality of the shot,, marvelous,, may be the background colour should be a lighter to lit the "drop" figure out perfectly and appears separated from the ground. though super work. Saeed

Many thanks, Marian. I have tried adding various substances to the liquids I have used, in order to change the effect, but this one is just plain milk with a little food colouring added. Oh, and full-fat works better than skimmed!

Knowin exactly what you mean dear AJ, I tried this over and over again...it looked so easy when others have a shot like this, but hell it was frustrating me and some of my friends, so gave up as you need a much faster camera;)) Having been hanging under taps for ages!! Give me an elephant moving slower and being bigger:))) Really proud you did it and looking forward to see more of these, great presentation!! xxJen

Yes Julie - the trick is to disable all the "Nikon specific" contacts. A piece of tape stuck over them is enough to do this, cutting a hole in the middle so that the central contact still connects. I wasn't sure if this was going to work, so bought a cheap "cloned" flash unit to try it out. And sure enough, I can now sync up to the fastest shutter on the camera!

Thank you, Julie. I'm not sure if you realise how appropriate your "you got it" comment is. I've been working on these drops on and off for a couple of years, and I think I may indeed being getting to the point where I can say I've got it! Now that I've got the technical issues sorted, I can concentrate on shaping the drops and splashes themselves...
