Nice shot all the same. We all have friends etc whom we KNOW would make great portrait shots, but hate having their photo taken. So sometimes the cnadid ones are the only and sometimes the best shots we can strive for.

Hello dear Ray - What a lovely step daughter you have - why she would not want her picture taken is also beyond me - altho this candid shot is very nicely done and flatering too ...
I really like the BG very much and of course the light is wonderful for her skin tones- I would rate this a 7/7 if you accepted ratings :))

Hi Andre. Thanks for your detailed comment and advice. I have used that distraction idea with some types of studies. This shot was one of dozens and she was conscious of me clicking away while she talked to her mum. The ones where she looked into the camera were very false looking so I shall continue to get what I can when I can and I'll be as devious as I can get away with Cheers my friend, best wishes.....Ray

Hi Ray,
It is still a very nice pose, even if she is somewhat camera shy.
Some people are just plain self consious when a camera gets pointed at them.
Today's monster DSLRs are very intimidating.
There is a trick you could use if you like. Ask her to take a few shots with a favourite pet. Tell her you are concentrating on the pet, all the while, you are concentrating on her expression. If she thinks you are more interested in the dog or cat than her, she will relax much more because she believes she is not the centre of attention. A bit devious, but it works quite well. That was a tip I picked up years ago in a photo workshop.

Thanks a lot Kes, love your sentiments. I bought a camera for my wife and it very rarely gets used. She was a model/beauty queen back in her teens and early twenties but since a few little lines appeared on her face she too, like her daughter, will not tolerate any close up photography Cheers my friend
