About Trying to explore these wineglasses a little more. Hampered by the large noise in my little G3 - should try these with film soon. Glass from Orrefors' Merlot series.

Taras - thanks for your comment. A technique based on what you suggest is actually implemented in the camera I use. Any exposure longer than 1.6 s (or thereabouts) captures first the image, then a second image is captured and used to estimate the noise. If I had been able to stay at equiv ISO 50 for these photos I would not have had much of a problem, but I had to push the camera to it's highest sensitivity setting to get even these.

Stefan,

Nice images. It would have been nicer to see the whole glass... but that is just probably my preference for a square image.

For noise, try the following: shot an image, then shoot the same settings but with the lens covered (lens cap) as a dark frame. Multiple dark frames averaged are better. Then subtract the dark frame from your image. This should help reduce digital noise. This is a processing technique used in CCD astroimaging.

Beautiful abstract. I like the composition and how the lines are different in each glass.

Thanks for your tip on my latest photo...
