This is a statue of Daniel O' Connell "the emmancipator". The statue is located in the Georgian part of Limerick city centre in an area of O' Connell Avenue known as the Crescent due to the shape of the street. Obviously, O' Connell's pretty important to Irish history as The Crescent is at the junction of O' Connell Ave. and O' Connell St.! It's all O' Connell in Main Street Ireland!!!
no problems. It's a hell of a parade all right! Achill's a lovely place so get those slides sorted and stick 'em up for all to see. Best of luck with the photography, the terminology and all the rest of it.
Thanks Daithi. Really don't know many photographic terms yet myself but enjoying this constant parade. Limerick gets bad press huh? Sorry bout the gaff, At least I was right in that the O'conell wasn't as I remembered it. Because it wasn't it. Have some shots of Achill I need to transfer from slide somehow. And Tydavnet of all placesd to travel half way round the world to see. It was an incredible priviledge to have got there. Terrific time. I'll keep an eye out for your work.
Hi Ian, thanks for looking and commenting on my photos, particularly the one about the tree. I love that you saw the "wee" stars in it! Anyway, I think you're right about the photo O' Connell on the Crescent having a bit of a tunsten hue to it. I think it adds to it myself as the other photos I took during that sequence lacked edge, if you know what I mean.
However, it wasn't photographed in Dublin at all, but in Limerick city. That's about 200 km to the west of the capital!!! The reason I've been taking photos in Limerick is...well to begin with I live around the city so it's easy and secondly, the city is often given bad press in Ireland despite having a fabulous history and some beautiful (and not so!) architecture. I just want to build up a portfolio of the city in all its goodness before I do one of the bad things!
OK, take care and thanks again. Looked at some of your photos and was well impressed with them.
