I like the photo and the surroundings tell a story of where the little girl is.. how ever I do think the softening does the picture well.. Still leaving the story but bringing the focus more to the subject.. Learned a new trick as well when I don't get the DOF from my camera.. Nice shot!!

Bascially the same way you pull color through on a black and white. Nice. I need to use my photoshop more! Yes it helps thank you, always open to tips and comments. ~mandy

Photoshop tip - create a new layer of the image, blur it out and delete the part you want in focus. Does this help?

Nice capture. If you want to bring more focus on the girl, I would try blurring out the surrounding just a little.
