Nico Pirosmani (1862 - 1918) is perhaps Georgia's most celebrated artists - but he lived the tradgic poverty stricken life of many artist. However he captured the life of his country so well. I was happy to see much of his collection at the Museum of Georgian Art. The Janitor is one of his most well know works with even a street sculpture is dedicated to this one work. It was good to know that one was allowed to make pictures in this museum which has an excellent collection of Georgian art and antiquities, but it's suffering badly from poverty and much in need of major restoration. Georgians are passionate about art and here on my visit to the museum I wittnessed students at work practicing their techniques through their chosen artists.
