Hi Michael, good eye to spot this detail. Looks good and sharp, I do agree that a longer DOF may be nice as well, however, this really makes the one side standout.

Thanks all y'all - especially to you Alastair, didn't know the fern was a strong kiwi symbol.

I'm using an older lens with no metering, so I'm forced to really pay close attention to exposure and F-stop, which is probably why the composition and lighting are fairly tight.

I did use a bit of contrast and gamma work in an editor.

Now as a New Zealander tis appeals to me (you may not know it but the NZ All Blacks Rugby team carry this as an emblem of NZ on their rugby shirts). Great shot Michael - lovely detail, good composition with the strong diagonal leading the eye left to right to the tiny curl on the end. Nicely exposed too, with good blacks and a bright subject but no obviously overdone highlights... Well done!
