Deb, I know you would like to create a blurred bokeh, but not with this image I hope. It is beautiful just the way you present it. Color, DOF and Composition are excellent. Let me also take the time to say Thank You for viewing my Monarch Macro., Best Regards, Ceceilia

You are right Ry, you need time to get a good composition. But this shot was taken when I was on tour with my companies sales team and tooks some very quickshots. I do not carry my slrs on tour and the W1 is the only equipment I was carrying at that tiome. How ever I could not avoid those bright flowers in the background as they were present all around the flower at different angles.

Ah you have done the right thing making the second layer with just the flower. Now if you use the magic wand or what ever you prefer select the edge of the flower, go to the heading select and then down to modify and choose feather start with a # like 5 or 10 just to see how it works. If all works well your edges should blur some. Now you can merge or flatten the image just to have a look at the effect, if its to much or to little go ctrl Z and it will unflatten and you can make the changes you like. Let me know how you work out with this. Ellen

g'day Debarshi, maybe you should have thought about these issues of presentation at the time of taking the image dof diffusion high iso diffused light composition to avoid bright objects in bgnd etc not everything is 'fixable' in ps

Thankyou Allen. I have very limited knowledge with photoshop. Here I first created a duplicate layer and then selected the flower with the magnetic lasso tools and then played around with the first layer when I suddenly say that I could do this kind of an effect. But after this I wanted to softne up the edges and didnt know how to do it. Now I know. Thankyou and everybody else here for helping me out.

This is a superb image I like it this way. To help answer your question though, once you select the edges you can then feather the edges and it will soften them. You could make another layer with say 25% gray and then use a light eraser to bring out what you want. I have a plug-in called Flaming Pear that has a filter call melancholy that will put a blur around the flowers. I hate the lasso tool also but what ever you used here looks like it worked like a charm. You could really do a lot once you have this selected, try control J after you have the flower selected, it puts the flower on a separate layer and then you can change the background or just work on the two elements separately. I hope this gives you a leg up so to speak. I'm about half way through my first cuppa tea so I hope some of this makes sense. lol Ellen

you can use the 'blur' or 'smudge' tools to kill the sharpe lines.
hope you don't mind but you can also 'distort' by 'finger-painting' with these same tools.

Debarshi,
This is an incredible floral shot. The composition is superb. There is a potential to see a lot of symbolism in this photo. Being an amateur astronomer, I can imagine the large, open flower as the sun, and the small, closed flower as the earth orbiting around it.

Dear Deb i do not know much about photoshop but you can do it by using a macro filter & focussing on the mid zone, suppose u use +3 ,+10 macro filters you will find it difficult to focus initially but once you do on the portion you want to the effects are amazing ,just try this i do it to a lot of my florals ,love, dada.

Thankyou Susie, the reason I wanted to correct the sharp edges is that Im not too good with the magnetic lasso tool in PS.
