Indeed this image could bring a dream to a reality. I love the composition, colours and that beautiful reflection.
And if you were lucky you could get photos of few animals, like white bald eagle, or few rodents, or perhaps deers made your image beyond complete.
But I am very sure those creatures were around and did not want to intrrupt you from your dream-reality mood.

I'm Glad you got out to the Wild west! looks like the area you went to was supreme. I have a criticism of this image though. I find that there isn't a focus in particular in this image and hence it has lost the impact that I am sure you are trying to convey. The mountain and trees have a equal interest rather then one or the other being predominate. If you were to crop the top of the tree on the right somewhat the mountain would become more of the main focus.....hope you don't mind my suggestions.

Hugo, I'm glad you had a chance to get out into the 'country' when you were out this way. We grow accustomed to our own areas and in the same way you felt here, traveling through Wyoming and Montana I felt awed by the same sense.
Very nice representative scene you have captured here. I like the lighting how it falls in the center. I agree that getting out into nature has a healing quality for the soul and that is why a photo such as this is so appealing to absorb.

Hi Ian, I guess the phrasing "absolute translation" is a creation I made based on my limited knowlege of English...:) I'll try to explain with the attached diagram.
Take a fixed point somewhere on your subject, one near by, one further away. If the camera rotates just a wee bit during the "camera shake" thing, the ponts translate on your ccd, causing an unsharp image. The translation of the farthest point is larger than a point near by. So the larger the distance to the subject, the larger the motion blur will be with an identical camera shake, right?
This sounds logical to me, but I'm not sure if it's correct... Any other thoughs are always welcome! And what would be the correct phrasing for "absolute translation"?

hugo this is an awesome shot! i liked the choice of wide angle lens in here. its perfect you captured the reflection on the water and the streaks of light on the field, trees and mountain top, so difficult to time when its cloudy and hoping for that light to seep through it. well done and very impressive portfolio with loads of awards. ill definitely visit your portfolio regularly

Outstanding photograph!! Colors/exposure are right on. Looks as though you had the perfect day for photography. Puffy white clouds, spots of shade on the ground. Still water that reflects like a mirror.
I've not been to this location, but have heard it's lovely, and this confirms it.

Hi Omar, good to hear from you again. I sometimes wonder about that too. Having nature around is so important....
I see what you mean about the tilt, but I assure you, it isn't there; I always pay attention to those things, and eventhough it's hard to measure in this shot, as the tree line doesn't run in a straight line parallel to the horizon, the wide angle effect does distort the trees a bit, allowing this apparent tilt. It's very straight, though....:)

Sometimes I ask myself why I moved from Canada to Europe when I see these images. I have to say that not having the expanse of nature nearby feels like a gulf in my soul sometimes. Of course in Europe we have other compensations like good food and coffee and culture, but still, I firmly believe that man's true home is close to nature..
Lovely shot. A small comment (dare I?) it seems to my eye that there is a slight clockwise list?

I hadn't seen this one the first time around, so it is quite nice to see it now. Similar to the one I have recently uploaded, in that you have the classic "river and mountain" composition, but quite different in light, colour and mood. Whereas I had monsoon-type weather, here you have cheerful, colourful sunny skies and bright light.
Nice use of the reflections and layers within the image.

Thanks for your comment. The Aperture value was taken from the EXIF, so must be correct... I do see the blurriness, though. Perhaps a slight camera shake? As you know, a minor shake creates a larger absolute translation over distance. Or am I mistaken and is there another explanation?
As per your request, I attachted a different shot, showing an overview of the area. Let me know what you think, please?

Beautiful vista. Shame I had no time to visit that part of the state in 2004, reason to try and get back there some day.
I do notice a slight blurriness in the background, almost like DOF is too shallow or there's some light haze.
I'd love to see a wider version of this, showing more of the surrounding area rather than having those two trees tightly frame the scene (which is well seen btw).

Hugo, this photo takes my breath away too and I have to add that all your pics I've looked at so far, including this one, have captivated my eyes.
The softness in the clouds is well balancing the dramatic mountains and trees. The reflections in the water are stunning and I especially like the high grass bunches in the foreground which add a natural frame to the image. Perfect!!!

Hi Michael, Thanks for your comment. About the composition, I struggled a bit. I took the first few shots from a bit further to my left (see attached), but coulnd't find the right lense to capture both the tall tree on the right in full view, without creating too much space on the left. As the light was fading rapidly, I decided to go for a wide angle lens, and crop the image later. (apart from a minor crop on the left, that was barely necessary). I selected this spot to create the virtual line between the spot of grass and one of the more prominent trees in the background, to guide the eye. It sounds far fetched, but it was a deliberate choice at the time. The spot I took this one from was the farthest to the right I could go without loosing the reflection of the mountain in the pond. It was also the last photo I could take before the sun was obscured by another cloud....
