The desert Southwest has always been one of my favorite places. Sad to hear that Amboy isn't so friendly. There're those who are afraid that outsiders are going to take it all away from them, so they act that way. I remember how hostile some of the park rangers were in Death Valley, for example, towards minorities. Getting back to this photograph, I do like it. The majesty of the place is so well communicated. I do wonder however, how it would look if you had a ladder to take it from a higher vantage point.

steve...maybe its because their sole income is by 'renting' the town to movies and photographers?

Roy...

I know what you mean about the area. DO NOT stop in Amboy. It's a privately owned town and they are hostile to photographers.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Very much appreciated.

Steve, my wife and I were just passing through and stopped only long enough for her to photograph the church behind the post office. Was going to photograph Roy's just for fun, but the light was bad by then. I love old Route 66. Reminds me of when I was a kid. The area bears a whole lot more exploration.

the image has great texture. I can almost feel the sand. And nice lighting between the foreground and the mountains. Great use of black and white.

Hey Ron,

Sai and I were there not too long ago and I saw this. Well captured. I hope you didn't stop in Amboy.
