Atta Boy Shane! Keep 'em comin'- the site needs guys like you. I looked at this for a while and then scolled up to cut the pic in half. Then i tried about the bottom third. Then it became a real head scatcher if you know what I mean? Try it yourself. Larry

Nice and blurry Shane, I noticed the water in the background, and at first thought it was sand, and you were at the beach :P

I like the use of B+W and I like the post work that you did bringing out the ripples. About time you posted some more of your great work! :P

Hi Don,

The lines are ripples in the water behind the reeds. The shot itself was approx 1/350th sec, the aperature is wide open hence the blurry "long exposure" effect.

Rgds,
Shane

Very nice abstract. Are the horizontal lines a fence? The long exposure give a nice soft effect. Don.

thanks Hugo - its only when I applied the blue filter on the channel mixer that I noticed the water ripples too. I enhanced this slightly by using the brush tool horizontally on a contrast layer. The intense out of focus effect was achieved by throwing the aperature wide open and was very intentional. The in camera sharpening has long been turned off and I am starting to appreciate relative softness in images more and more. In PS I applied about 8 layers all with subtle ajustments, in saying that, the above was achieved in about 5 minutes. Finally the rebate border was added. Its a 5x4 mimic - I like its roughness. I have been looking for a 35mm equivilent for ages but cant find one anywhere. Keep an eye out for me!

Hi Shane, don't take this wrong, but I find it very interesting to see how such a photo, where everything is or better seems to be out of focus still grabs the attention. And does that in a very positive way. It has a very good feel about it in a rather graphical, 2D way. Only on closer inspection, the horizontal lines become recognisable as ripples in the water. Creative approach and good postprocessing.

Cheers,

Hugo
