Hi John, I would be proud to have taken this shoot. Improvements for me are in the middle ground and I think there is to much of it. For me the central strip of water divides the interesting bits without adding anything to the photo. Less off the middle ground might have be better....CU Glenn

I like the limited colours in this image and the long shutter speed captures the swirling of the ocean around the rocks quite effectively. However I agree with Manu in that I find my eye is drawn to both the horizon and to the rocks in the foreground and it seems to flick betwen the two rather than being drawn smoothly.

Jon, this is a very nice technical say work, but I feel you perception gets away on wide angle effects, personally I feel not clued on the composition neither on perspective everything is far distance from what I think (composition)
Any way the aesthetics are skillful. (Hope not offend you)
Cheers,
Harry

This is a good technique (one of my favorite styles to shoot in) and it's used well here. Technically there is nothing wrong w/ this shot. Exposure is good & details are sharp.

I find the continious hue to be a little too much.

Usually, the color tone from the setting sun would dissapate to nuetral, normally balanced colors as you get towards the foreground...leaving the sky a reddish ornage or purple, and the foreground a neutral blue, green or gray.

The clouds and sky are nice, they give a good sense of depth to the image.

I might have gone for more DOF, and a slightly longer shutter to blur the water just abit more.

Cheers,
Chris

Beautiful shot, John. The last bit of evening light makes this dreamy and almosot mysterious. The 3-second exposure contributed to the overall light glow across the image, as well as the milky texture on the water.

One small suggestion: The rocks that are so critical to the composition are verrrry close to the bottom edge of the frame. Consider giving them a bit more breathing space. Panning the camera down just a smidge would prevent the rocks from crowding the bottom edge. You might lose an equivalent amount from the top, but that wouldn't be a huge sacrifice since the best part of the sky is right at the horizon.

I like what you have shown us here. Hope the suggestion makes sense.

Whilst the shot is very good I feel it lacks cohesion..to me it has the look of two seperate shots stuck together. Now, I dont profess to be able to do better but the overal composition eaves me uncomfortable....the shot seems to spill out of itself, nothing is holding the elements together...

I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say...its not a "bad" shot but it could be a lot more..?

Cheers for now

Manu

Awesome sunset. The swirling water on the rocks makes this a fabulous photograph. I only wish the exposure info was included.

Best wishes,
Dave

Great warm color and composition. It looks as if you used filters to get the even color saturation that you did. It kind of looks like a prehistoric dinosaur underneath that water!

Verynice job!

Very nice, John. I really like the "cauldron" of the ocean against the detailed, dramatic sky.
Nice composition!!
