Hi Roby...

an update...

Over the weekend, I bought a 20" LCD wide display, so now my powerbook has a new way to show me the colors and brightnes that i've been missing. I took this image that you corrected, and compared it to my image, and yours looks *SO* much better on the new monitor, and makes my image look dark. funny how off the powerbook display is, even after calibration w/ a Spyder2 calibration device! Once I calibrated the new monitor, it was like I was in a dark room for a year, and you came along and showed me where the light switch was!! :)

thank you my friend! ...I didn't mention your name when my wife found out that I bought a new monitor... so you are safe :)

cheers,
-Joel

cheers Roby! I think, now that I've purchased the Epson R1800 printer..that it's now time I get a monitor for the home that worthy of seeing images that I plan to print! ...funny, how at work, everything is state of the art.. home...except for the camera and printer, everything is old and tired!

thanks again! have a good evening my friend!

oh.. you are too much good with my my dear joel.. but you have a reason i believe that the LCD display ..the yield of the colors penalizes and of the white that is for the contrast that the same one has in seeing. I have tried with the turned out LCD but I have of great contrast with my a CRT video in 21"... have to crazy linens in the silhouette and colors too much fluorescent..

best wishes and have all the best

roby
ciao..

Roby,

Wonderful job with the whites. I have to be honest, in that I am having issues with my Powerbook, in that I am having trouble balancing the whites. I have no problem at work with two gigantic CRT monitors (as that my day job, and can't play with my images on my work machines for security reasons), but at night, I'm on my powerbook, and I feel that the LCD display is crippling my ability to judge the color space that my photos are shot with. Thank you so much for taking the time to balance this one! A very good call on your part! What's nice is, I can now look at this image at home, and derive a curve between the difference of the two image, and know what way to go as a final proof for future images. This one was a tough one because it was such a rainy, overcast day. I knew it was rotten when I uploaded it at home, and saw it on my monitor at work the next day. What can you do! ....talk the wife into a new monitor at home for my color balancing? ;)

Thank you so much my friend for you kind comments once again. I enjoy all the input from everyone here! I am learning so much with every press of the shutter, and 'submit photo' button!

best regards,
-Joel

dear Joel..
Here my friend, that that I consider a fantastic one as portrait.
Played on a perfect DOF and a remarkable background in contrast, normally the problem of the background is always active, only in the study does not exist it and is created.
I love child's this expression and the father's face.
The composition and the gripped cut are right for this photo, only personally I see the exposure not as perfect as balance of the white!
I see that the shutter is 1/500, means that the light was big.. maybe with a light over-exposure you would have had this result!
The difference is your hot tone of the portrayed double and maybe the elaboration is lightly cold..
great work.. all my best wishes..
roby

sorry for my work that have ruined ..

:)

very nice angle and view for this shot, you captured a great moment with their very expressive mood... both looking at the same direction gives the sense of their intense viewing on something... nice shot and composition..

Jeanette,

I am so glad that you like this one! I've had one comment before yours about the focus. I bet it's not going to be the last ;) I like being drawn to her left eye, even though I was I was a little farther away when I grabbed the shot. It's almost as if the focus depth is pulling them together as one. ..anywho! not spoze to review my own shots :)

thanks for the kind comments again Jeanette!

best,
-Joel

Justin,

Thank you very much for your comments! The focus was a hard call. For such a perfect candid moment, I had to go with what the lens would allow at that distance. I do wish that I was 4 inches back, but I do like the way it turned out.

cheers,
-Joel

Sooooooooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuute little girla and such expression in her face. LOVELY! Nice natural portrait. Unusual to let the eye further away from "us" being the focused one....creative.

Great facial expression on the little girl. Nice cropping and composition as well. the colours in this are toned well. Unfortunately the center of focus, in my opinion, is in the wrong spot. I would like to see the little girl's other eye in focus, but nice photo regardless.
