Country - Poland   Poland
About Auschwitz has thousands of photos hanging around on it's walls of the prisoners that were sent to the camp. This was done later by the Poles to put a human face on the horror that went on there. I walked around looking at these photo's of the prisoners for hours wanting to pick a couple individual ones out. that really struck me. I noticed Maria Guzniczak (prisoner 55713) who arrived at the camp on the 23rd of August, 1943 and died there on the 21st of February, 1944. Her eyes haunted me.
I was moved to post this series of Auschwitz shots because of some of the flip comments I notice on some photos of the Iraq invasion. The comments made me sick because the people that wrote them didn't seem to understand that the death of innocent victims was all part of what the bigger picture is when there's a war. It's not a video game, it's not something to be taken lightly. People are dying horrible deaths for no good reason. When we start labeling different groups of people as good and bad because of the irrational and outragious actions of a few then we are doing exactly what the Nazi's did . We are repeating history and learning nothing.

When we do this then we to are lost.

excellent capture.. your right her eyes tell the whole story. Very strong image and the victims should never be forgotten. I may be passing through here in a few months and definitely have to stop. Of course, part of me does not want to view such a tragic part of human history. I agree that wars always causes harm to the innocents and should be avoided at all costs....basically there is no such thing as a "good" war. But, what they did here and across europe was not war but was an attempt at extermination. great series of photos...
