Nice capture of these two different moods. Excellent espressions. To me the flash light is a bit harsh but I understand there was no other option left. Regards.

Thanks....my camera has up to 1600 ISO but for some wierd reason I've been afraid to go over 200 or 400. Go figure. ) I'm gonna try your advice. I usually just have the onboard flash that doesn't move, but should probably start using my external flash and bounce it for candids too. Yayha left some good advice regarding this too. Thanks again. Susie

Thanks Yayha, and I certainly didn't mean to sound defensive, just inquisitive. ) I really like constrructive criticism. Any time! You've given me some very good advice here that I intend to play around with. I would love to learn to not use a flash for the very reasons you've stated. If you have some other info my address is oconnorsusie@aol.com Thanks again and the very best of regards! susie

Very cute Susie! That's one way to get a reaction out of a kid :) I like the strong colours in this one. I usually like the desaturated kids portraits, but in this case, the image cries out for rich bold colour. I think you chose the right way to go. Andre

Not sure how your camera works but if you have higher iso settings that will help a lot. or if you have an external flash for your camera you can use it and bounce it off the ceiling or wall.

hey suse, hope you are doing fine. first of all these are not so bad photos :) so no need to be defensive, they r just less than your quality :) and fo those conditions we can only go for our hiest ISO SPEED, and maximum f stop and see what shutter speed will u get and if it is ok or not. that is all we can do i guess. as for me , i do so and i try to stay faster than 1/30 or 1/20 seconds shutter speed. i usually get nice results with that ( usually normal sitting people, not children) . another thing just hit me now, y not try changing color balance with photoshop so that u change the WHITE flash light? i guess adding more yellow or skin colors alittle? never tried it before, but worth a try. so good luck. PS. mail me and i might be able to show you something.

Hi Yayha, Yes, I had to use flash on this because it was inside. If I don't use it the shutter speed is too slow and the image gets a little blurry. Do you have any advice to get around this while shooting candids indoors? These were pretty spontaneously taken, so not much time for set up! ) Susie

Hi Trish, Thanks for your critique. I agree with the brightness...I'm not sure what to do when taking candids inside though. Without a flash the shutter speed is too slow and the pic is blurry. I guess that's why I love outside shots SO much! ) Any advice on the inside candids? Susie

She goes like.. YUCK :) i was thinking at first that she is laughing or crying, but the pickle explains it :) the lower photo goes ok with me, but the upper one has something in the eye color, kinda blue, were you using flash? i hate flash , they never give me the colors i want. still wonderfull comparison about the pickle effect on facial nerves.hehehe.
