About An average of 16 frames from video taken with a SAC-IV QuickCam based CCD camera mounted on an 8" f/6.3 Meade LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope with a Meade Series 4000 x2 barlow at 11:35 AM on December 29, 2002 in New York, NY. A dark frame was subtracted from each frame before stacking.

Re. color: My SAC-IV's detector seems to like to make my images have too much magenta in them. Through the telescope Saturn shows a nice yellow and depending on the steadiness of the air and magnification, some beige detail on the disk.

The hardware is pretty modest if you discount the telescope. The SAC-IV is just a webcam in an enclosure to make attaching it to a telescope easier. There are many on the web who have cannibalized their webcams to get similar results. The reason for stacking multiple images is to reduce the noise from the uncooled CCD chip used at long exposures. I had to discard over 100 frames of the video that I shot to get this image because of atmospheric blurring. The webcam was attached via USB to my iBook.
