Location City -  San Andres Itzapa

Country - Guatemala   Guatemala
About Guatemala Voodoo: San Simon known as Maximon by the Indians, is a famous Guatemalan tradition and its origins is unknown. San Simon is an actual Guatemalan God and a big part of the population believe in it, but they keep this tradition a secret, so be discrete to ask. There are several San Simons in the country the famous ones are in Nahuala and Zunil in Quetzaltenango state, 3 hours from Antigua, Santiago Atitlan in Panajachel also a couple of hours away and the San Andres Itzapa which is located only 30 minutes away by car. They believe that his incredible powers grant you protection from evil spirits, spells and enemies, he also provides wives, husbands, lovers, money, jobs, luck etc... The worship of this God is a mix of pagan rituals (Indians) and Christian religion, as an example one way of asking is to curse, spit, smoke and drink alcohol in front of him while Christ is evoked.

This candle is in the San Andres Itzapa chapel.

Interesting, but also aesthetically pleasing. I'd think a scene like this would be technically difficult too. Your new camera performs wonderfully!

I like the colors and framing, and I like the focus on the lone candle as the "star" of the photo. Jonathan.

Beautifully detailed foreground candle with lovely colours in the flame. Superb clarity from an interesting dof which has heightened the mood of the composition. Well done Alison for this and the very interesting and educational 'about'. Very best wishes sweetie.....Ray

Well done Alison. The colors and lighting are good. Details are sharp. DOF has blurred the background slightly, allowing a sense of place.

Excellent composition, Alison! I like your exposure and focus, too, so the background is discernable, without being distracting.
Dave.
