Ed, Thanks for your comment and compliments. I m still trying and learning the portrait and studio lighting etc. (but the poor thing is i m trying to learn w/o a studio lighting...) using window light, my flash unit bouncing off an umbrella etc.
Thanks again.

I've read all the comments about the background not being perfect but, to be honest, I like it and think it enhances the little girl's skin tone and the color of her cloths. I may have tried to get the catch lights, in her eyes, in a little different position but that's only my opinion. The top of her head, at the hair line, looks a little flawed. May have been the crop. Anyway, it's a great portrait of a cute little girl and you should be proud of the shot. I know several "pros" who are selling portraits that are not this good.

Beautiful colours and a lovely portrait. She has amazing eyes that you have captured well. My only comment is that she doesn't look 100% relaxed...

Not bad, but to be honest it looks like a imigations photo at this angle. I agree with the others comments about the background also. Again it is not bad, and you asking for tips is what this site is for me also. Shawn

Elangovan,
Not sure why you have posted so many similar images of Raji-2. I like this one the best....but I think putting so many similar images up like this weakens your overall portfolio. Why did you post three almost identical images?

Personally, I usually find brightly colored backgrounds or painted scenes to be kind of hokey. They can be used to good effect if they are skillfully coordinated with the other colors in the image or are used to evoke a period style, but that's something you can work on if it appeals to you.
The background does seem to be vaguely pinkish, and I would correct that to neutral at the printing stage and/or maybe light it half to one stop brighter and the shooting stage.
Another way to use a plain background more effectively is to light it with a spot or other narrow-beam light for a graduated effect. I like the short DOF and the framing.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Kim, I see what your are saying. I wanted to keep the bg simple so that she (subject) would pop-out [well, its not, I guess :)]. Next shoot I will try more... bg! bg! off to search...

I find the background colour very common and blah for these portraits. With kids you can get away with bright colours, fake scenes... but this background you have chosen has no life to it. Other than that, I think that you did a great job at capturing a wonderful portrait of this young girl.
