Thanks for commenting Dave . . . I think we both know a great deal of very high quality work is routinely ignored . . . certainly nothing to take personally . . . Oh wait . . . Dave Arnold? Yeah . . . you're being ignored for a reason!! LoL!! Just kidding you my brother!!! I loved the neon work . . . well . . . most of it . . . but I'm thinking beer mugs . . . ;) . . . They ALWAYS seem to draw a crowd! ---And you'd never believe how I came across the glass makers. We went looking for glass at a County Fair which was right where I wanted to get decisive moments shots (due to bull riding competition) --- Figured they'd have crystal and who knows what?? Instead I find this glass blowing exhibition and they were doing the whole nine yards right there for all to see and ask questions about and everything! Amazing luck and very educational. Timing is everything.

Very cool composition and congratulations on the BIP award. Who'd have thought to go out and find a glassmaker for this project? Not me and if I did, I'd be searching for years. Seems I am glass deficient, having taken a photo of my only piece of glass that I own, other than my beer mugs. I even tried sneaking in "neon glass" to the project but was promptly ignored.
Best wishes, Dave

Chris mentioned that 10% routinely need to be re-melted . . . for a variety of reasons. It was far too hot to break, really . . . but touching anything mars the surface and the item can't be sold.

Jessie: Because he continued to add glass here and there . . . the inside was different from the outside. This is the same piece seen in:
http://www.usefilm.com/image/1155539.html
In a tragic twist of fate . . . he touched the door to the oven with it and damaged it . . . but glass melts . . . so it was recycled! The Only thing that can touch the glass is something within a temperature range of the glass you're working. Fast change in temperature cracks it. These items take 12 hours to cool off . . . in an oven. Really interesting stuff.

Good looking? Of course . . . I deserve the best and she'd be the first to tell me I HAVE the best! LoL! I had a Kawasaki 1200 . . . so she got a Honda Goldwing 1500 (something-something envy--I forget). She couldn't drive to Monterey one year so we doubled up on her bike since it was more comfy for passengers . . .
I work in high-tech Security and have been commanding for more than a Decade . . . I used to run the largest US customs bonded private security post in L.A. - I know lots of cops and one judge is in our motorcycle group.
Ride alongs are great! We did that and tours of the prisons when getting my degree in Criminal Justice at Cal-State Sacramento. Lots of fun . . . but round here they all start as jail guards. yech!
Basically, you're right. I am a lucky guy! . . . But at least I know it!

Amazing. A new project pops up and you're straight in there with a whole series of shots and a BIP to celebrate. I'm afraid you're leaving me WAY behind now...
I like the different elements of this image: the molten glass, the bowl, the blue glass and the person standing behind. It looks like the image itself is trying to explain the process.

Melisa: I quite agree with you and hated that it was there . . . but it WAS there and the DOF only made it more obscure. I could NOT get a lower angle to lose it . . . so I dealt with it as it was . . . but . . . agreed . . . it really bites. These guys were to busy to set up my shot for me properly, though they were VERY helpful before the commencement of the work and gave me the best spot to document from. Glass artists have quite the trade. An art that holds the viewers attention, and your photo presents that too. Great Honeycomb shape. The only thing I find a bit distracting to your nice crisp details is the orange blob (?) on the lower left side of the bowl.
