I really enjoy how the clouds are climbing higher and higher, eventually over the watchers head. a great feel to the overall picture. Nice composition :) Erin

Hi Sue,
Thank You for your suggestion. I think that your proposed crop would work very well indeed. The reason i have the square format in this situation is that it becomes a little les conventional and the forceful manner that the clouds drive your eyes down to the horizon is very powerful. Something I am playing with on occasion. I find that there are usually many ways to cut a apple but it is important to cut it the way it "feels" best to the creator. Thanks again for your valued input! Cheers, Tim

Hi Tim,
A very impressive tonal range, and great use of lighting. The wide angle effect, stretching the clouds on top is great, and I like the saturation. Very good shot.
Cheers,

Tim, I like your image, especially how it shows the contrast between bright sun (which is probably warm) and the cool blue and green colors. The composition, particularly on the lower 2/3 of the image seems to pull into a vanishing point. It makes me feel like I'm being pulled into the image. In general I like a square image. However, in this case, I'm not sure the square format adds anything. To me (and maybe only to me) the top 1/3 of the image doesn't really add any meaningful impact. The clouds in that area are gray to dark gray without much definition.
Just to play, I scrolled my display to crop off the top of the image just down to where there is a triangular peek of blue on the left margin. With that crop, the viewers eye is really focused on the landscape without any chance of being getting lost in gray clouds. It also enhances that sense of the horizon vanishing point.
Since you are the photographer who was at the scene, I'm curious what you think about that suggested crop.

Beautiful colors and an amazing sky!! I'm always hoping to capture vivid colors such as these, but rarely making it. Did you use a ND grad filter or just retouch the exposures to set them both so well balanced(sky & foreground)? Best regards, Niclas
