About Formula One is the pinnacle of motorsports. Using the most advanced technology available, these cars possess power, speed, and agility like no other.

Toyota test-driver, Ricardo Zonta, in the Toyota TF106 Forumla One car.

The final image of my Formula One photo series. This is my favorite of all the photos captured as I think you can really feel the speed. Decided to go with a panoramic format as to crop out distractions at the top.

It was a difficult task panning this car traveling close to 190+mph and this was probably the only clean shot I was able to get from this vantage point. You only have so much time before the car flies by.

On another note, I posted my previous photos (as well as many others) at a Formula One forum and the owner of the Official Ricardo Zonta website has asked to use my photos on their website. So I'm really happy about that! =)

Photos on the site can be seen at http://www.ricardozonta.com.br/monterey_news.html and http://www.ricardozonta.com.br/ls.html

This shot was handheld, using manual focus.

Please let me know what you think, thanks!

Hi again Toshi,
You have to do what you have to do. Not only will I possibly be missing Lime Rock, but also the American Lemans race is on the Labor Day weekend at Mosport. So once again I will miss that one too :( I really wanted to see and hear that fantastic diesel Audi.

Hi Andre,

No worries, I never take any critiques as a negative, as long as they aren't a direct attack ;) Everyone is entitled to their opinion and it lets me improve with future photos :) I'll definately have to take a look at the magazine you recommended at my local Border's bookstore when I get a chance. I've checked out a few Japanese F1 magazines and I know exactly the type of creative auto photos you're talking about.

Sorry to hear you may miss out on Lime Rock - but there are always priorities that must be taken care of first. Hopefully there'll be change in plans and you make it out there :)

No problem Toshi,
Just remember, If I ever comment on something that might sound negative, it's usually only another way to do something, not necessarily a better way to do it. I don't want to come across sounding like a no-it-all. I'm one of the first to state that photo images are mostly subjective and there is always more than one way to skin a cat.
By the way, from the skill you show in your non automotive images, I would say you are more than capable of doing some "artistic" Auto shots as well.
To see some great art type auto images, there is a magazine devoted to F1 from the UK called F1 Racing. It is chock full of fantastic images of F1 cars by all the top Automotive photojournalists.

On another note, I may not make it to Lime Rock after all this year. My son's move in date is changed by one day which means I may have to stay in Boston the day that I planned to go to the races. Still up in the air at this point.

Hi Andre,

Thanks for your constructive comments on all of the photos from this series. I'm glad you can appreciate these photos from a motorsport perspective instead of the more creative / artistic style seen on UF.

As for the crop, I really wanted to give more room towards the front of the car, but unfortunately that was all the space I was able to get from this particular capture. I could have cut down more on the right-hand side, but really wanted to keep it a panoramic format :)

Thanks again for all your great comments. I may post some other various photos from this event later on ;)

I think it's awesome, the diagonal lines are great for adding speed and motion...wonderful capture, nice panning...excellent placement within the frame, I agree with the panoramic format....well done..:)

Hi again Toshi,
This is an good example of what I was just saying in my previous post. A great shot! Congrats for having that Zonta site use your image! That's a real good thing.
I would still recommend chopping just a bit off the right side of this one to leave more room where the car is going than where it has been. I know that is pretty standard practice, but it works in the effectiveness of action shots of all kinds of sports.
