Thanks Leo - and the suggestions are very appreciated. You should know, though, that any Forum thread I started would send me an e-mail of every response so I was already well aware of it (so there's no need to mention it here). Even if I didn't START a thread . . . I monitor them very well . . . and know comments made by people very well too....... I get e-mails from any replies to threads I am interested in regardless of who started it. Again - Thanks for the comments in the forum . . . I like many of them. We'll see what happens next month!

Thanks Marcus. I have lived with these beauties for decades and they're VERY hard to shoot due to the small amount of brilliant white surrounded by the very dark colors! This is my best after years of attempts! I appreciate the comments.

Thanks Lisa . . . these guys are sooooo pretty but VERY hard to shoot. The exposure setting is lethal to a good photographer . . . they MUST have artificial lighting by and large . . . because of the very small amount of brilliant white surrounded by very dark, beautiful color. This is my best after years of attempts!! And natural light only. Thank goodness for the lens!!

It almost appears as if the center of the flower with the purple area is lit up. Wonderful colors. Gorgeous in color and wonderful in B & W too. Hard to decided which to post - glad you posted both versions.

Thanks Markus . . . very different effects from the same image just based on lighting and color . . . a good example of the power of using photography skillfully would be this example which makes clear how the same image can be shown very differently - yet well. Appreciate your comments.

I'm with you about that Mary - and still feel a sense of wonder about how different an image can be in both color and B&W, even though I see it time and time again! Thanks for commenting!

Thanks Robin . . . the center of these flowers have given more grief to me than you can imagine! The exposure is a complete nightmare with the surrounding dark . . . and essentially a glowing white point in the center . . . but I finally managed to get something I could be proud of. Certainly can't be done on Auto settings - I have about a thousand shots to prove it! :) But . . . Uh, oh . . . I just got another idea! Hehehee!

It always amazes me the difference in colour and B&W. Very different feel. This is so strong this colour! It is rich and gorgeous and I still like that light in the middle.

Color version gets my vote...while there is more texture in the b&w, it's the "wow" color in this version that wins it for me...and yes, this one definately stands out from the background more. Great composition and that "glow" from the center of both flowers is magic! Soooo very nice Doyle! Robin

In this, the color version, the flowers really stand apart from the foliage in the background.
