Hi Ron, Thank you for your kind words. The pleassure was mine. I really enjoyed meeting you guys. I got this picture right in front of the Lucy Evans Baylands Nature Interpretive Center. I have seen this egret fishing along the bridge almost every morning during low tide. Take care and I hope to see you again. Yamil

Hi Christine, Thank you very much for your nice comment. Yes, the Palo Alto Baylands is a nature preserve near the bottom of the San Francisco Bay. Due to housing and industry development, wildlife habitats in the southern bay have been severely reduced. However, the Palo Alto Baylands offers some remaining wetlands and marshland for the birds. This preserve is only 15 minutes from my house and is one of the most biologically diverse spots nearby. Early morning this place is awesome for reflections and this past weekend I was very lucky getting this Snowy Egret with her/his prize. Take care buddy. Yamil

Hi Bill. Thank you for your nice comments. Adjusting the exposure compensation is the key element to get details in the whites. Depending on the subject you can go down or up in increments of 1/3 or 2/3 stop Plus (+) for lighter exposures and (-) for darker ones. In dark birds increase the exposure and the opposite is true for white birds. Another option is to use the auto-exposure bracketing. Making lots of extra images can be annoying, but also can guarantee your success. Ones you become familiar you can estimate the right exposure. For this shot I have perfect light (full sun) and I used minus (-) 0.7 stop, ISO 400 ( I should have used a lower ISO, but the next step down in my 20D is 200)( lower ISO means less noise), the exposure program was aperture priority, lens aperture F/7.1, high exposure time (1/4000 sec) tripod, auto focus (3.5 mts) and I was very close to the subject. On your next egret shot my recommendation is, try to get at least within 30 feet and if you have full sun, try to drop the exposure down by (-) 0.7 stop, and then when you do your post processing in CS2, you can increase the contrast and you’ll see those details coming out from the whites. If you don't drop the exposure down, you'll blow the whites because the meter will expose for black. By the way, I just ordered the book: The Art of Bird Photography” by Arthur Morris. It contains lots of tips in how to improve our field techniques. I can’t wait until I get it. Take care buddy and I hope to see some of your egrets soon. Yamil

Another oustanding image Yamil, The sharpness just blows me away. I've taken a few dozen Egrets shots with my Nikon D200 and the 80-400mm VR lens and can't get nothing this sharp. You sure do inspire me to bigger and better things. Keep doing your thing Yamil, I'll catch up one of these days, Bill
