This is an incredible shot.
I hope you don't mind if I give some suggestions to improve it. Digital photography really has taken us back to the 'darkkroom' and my critique is based on simple printing techniques.
First burn your corners. This will give you an even more dramatic shot and draw the eye in to the center. Next select the white wave splash behind the subject and burn in more detail. You don't have to do much. This is an really good shot and I salute you. I made those changes real quick and sloppy, I hope you don't mind. The information you can pull off a RAW will make this image sing.

A really impressive and striking shot. And presumably none too safe from your point of view as I assume you were subsequently put through the rinse cycle. And those rocks look pretty close, although this may be because of the lens you were using. Anyway, great shot, and congrats on the award.
