It was a hopeful view

Strange summer

Golden rain

And the singer remained unemployed because he could only sing

In the rain

The shine of the independent label

Frightened butterflies fly away

The dance of the wrathful dead in front of a bank

The new day is still night

For a small piece of heaven

(With all apologies to Steve Miller and his band ;-))

Thanks a lot for the nice comment, Biljana!

Despite the different "cuts", the deeper reason for the labeling of time intervals is more or less the same in older and in newer times. It is the observation of periodically repeating "events", that seem to form some kind of "time units". So, even a season is just the result of the observed repetition of, say, some flowers that blossom again and again over time. The introduction of such "time intervals" is way not the result of some "deviation" from a more traditional life, that you seem to make to some kind of antidote against all "problematic" modern illness. In that sense even the homo erectus did have the same ceremonials for some repeating phenomena. So the "bits and bytes" of life are not the inventions of today. The contradiction of separating "old natural intervals" from the "new artificial ones" is obvious.

The question about chopping the time (and anything else) into untis that make time (or anything else) measurable, is much deeper than such romantic thoughts about the yesterdays. It's subject of commensurability - of the very essence of content in its mathematical expression.

As always, scratch the surface and you find romantic thoughts. Go deeper and you find real questions.

And the funny thing is that the more "civilized" society gets, the more this timeexperience is needed to cut up life in little bits and control it whereas in the older days life and time was divided more in seasons and days and nights.

Thank you very much for the detailed comment, Annemette. I'll have to try it again following your suggestion. I don't have that plant anymore butI guess any other similar would do.

All the best,

Nick

P.S.: What is a new year? Only some certain point on the orbit of the earth around the sun. A point that is not anything different than any other point on that orbit, on the ecliptic plane, that follows some star at the edge of a spiral arm of a galaxy that moves towards Virgo, in a supergroup that moves towards the great attractor - in empty space. It seems to be so real and it turns to be only a human impression of time.

Aha I see what you mean, but I would probably have done it the other way around. Make it very clear to show the strength in such a leaf that appears every year full of will to live.
The shade makes it fragile though but the light next to it shows that life is a possibility. It only needs to blossom and reach out for the light poetically speaking.
Best wishes for the new year, but mostly for life itself
:)
Annemette
