Hi Edward, once you get use to it will be very easy, just try to lower your ISO during the day i think the lowest you can go on the d80 is 200 and put it up in low lights, that could be a trick, try it out and the more you click the close it gets. Good luck.

Thank you for your comment Ruben.
Yes I think you might be right regarding the ISO, I did try to elevate it to various levels during the day but was never completely satisfied with the results. I think it was a combination of issues; beyond the poor lighting on an overcast day, I was using a new camera, a new lens and had no previous experience with either.
As for my previous attempts on the four D80 photos I have posted, they are as follows:
Two in a tree: ISO 800 Steady: ISO 800 Just a teen: ISO 400 The Departed: ISO 400
With my D70s, I had great shots pretty much straight out of the box and I guess I was somewhat expecting the same with the D80. But I realise that the ease straight out of the box with the D70s was probably an anomaly and both the new camera and lens will take some getting used to before I am comfortable and can really be expecting optimal results. Hopefully I can work out all the kinks before the next safari.
Thanks again for your comment; if you have any suggestions in terms of ISO settings on the D80 for overcast days, I am curious as to what you might suggest.
All the best, Ed

hi there, i've been looking at the pics. you recently took with your D80 for what i realized that the problem may be at the ISO set up in your camara, for best results you should try manual settings and play with aperture and speed acording to whatever you are gonna shoot at but mostly iso i think it's set auto that's why you get either too noise the back of your pics. well it's by playing with the camara that you'll get to know it, by the way it's a very good one. good photo.
