If it only had a wider DoF, Dave! The bird itself is quite well in focus, but the many branches out of focus seem to play tricks with my eyes and make me think that it is out of focus. The composition itself is very nice, and in some sense also special, as it allows the bird to appear in its own world, providing us some more authentic impression of what is going on out there.

I assume that the low light dictated a wide aperture - has it been this way?

Best wishes,

Nick

A fantastic winter shot, the branches lead you straight to the bird. A well thought out image.

Superb isolation of your cute subject, Dave.
DOF and light are first-rate (as always). Wonderful contrast against the textures and colours of the frost-covered branches.

Hi Dave! Poor little thing! I like your composition, giving a lot of space for the cold environment. No show here, BTW!

Oh, poor baby. I hope he didn't end up with frostbite. He would have been hard to see amongst the branches, Dave. Well seen and captured. Cheers, Ann.

Hi Dave,
Welcome back!
A very nice composition of this little Sparrow. I tend to do the same as Don did to images like this. I find the Fuji lens to be inclined to go quite blue in the snow. I find desaturating selectively gets rid of any unnatural look very easily.

This makes me cold just to look at it. I like that you never cropped away too much of the tree. Making the bird sort of just an extension of the whole snowy scene is effective. Del.

Wow,,the patterns those branches make with the snow tightly embrasing them is quit a catch in itself. The effect is beautiful. What an added bonus with the little bird perched in amonst them. Great composition!!!! Welcome Back!!!

You are going to have to get some boots for your birds if it doesn't warm up. I took some of the blue out of the frost if you don't mind. Don.
