About We were over at a friend's house and the resident pooch was carefully watching the food plates for crumbs or offerings. So "dog" typical.
Taken in low light.

AJ -- Thanks and I agree that the arrow was not a good idea. Obvious versus heavy-handed.

Fine and funny shot, but yes, the arrow should go. The eyes of the dog are enough to guide the viewer's attention to the plate of food.

Nessa - as you must know I love all animals; I got such a kick out of watching this professional pathetic beggar at work. Those eyes!
Thanks for your comments.

What a funny shot like how you have framed the picture so not to distract away from the dog ..love his eyes willing the plate to fall to the floor..wonderful picture ..nessa

Annemette - The eyes are so appealing; that is why dogs thrive in human company. They are the best beggars of all time. :)
Thanks for commenting.

*LOL* Great and humourous shot with such a familiar situation for us dogowners! My newfoundlanddog knows that heīll get nowhere with this attitude with me, but my husband canīt withstand those big brown begging eyes*LOL*
Take care

Doyle -- OMG! My evil and handsome twin brother hacked my USEFILM account and uploaded his picture. I will need to talk to him (again).
Thanks for the comment on my heavy-handed portrayal of Buff. The vignette approach would have been a good one to try. I had the flu when I was working on this and lost all patience with many trips away from the computer while working on it and finally gave up and uploaded it. The slightly feathered selection approach with meat-cleaver precision made it even more heavy handed than I was trying to achieve.
As for the cats, I have had so many over the years and never ran across that behavior except for ferals. Must be the refined atmosphere in our home as we raised them. :)
Thanks for commenting!

Thanks for a HUGE laugh Jan! I'm so glad you're in this for the FUN because it shows in your work! I LOVE it! By the way . . . I must have a bit of British blood because OUR cats are VERY assertive at times (depends on the menu . . . they do fit the finicky mode too)!! But our dogs are JUST like this . . . VERY well behaved . . . but I'm thinking it's not a good idea to leave my plate unattended to go get a beverage!! LoL! Maybe, but I won't chance it! This shot would have been ideal to use vignetting to accent it . . . but hey! It's the FUN that shows through! By the way - I love the new Bio pic in the Profile . . . .

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Joe - thanks so much for your comments. After I posted it I realized the arrow was way too heavy handed but decided to leave it untouched just to get comments. As for the selection and the "harshness", I agree on that point too. It needed a much more subtle handling of the transition. I "slapped" this together yesterday when I was suffering from a bout of the 24 hour flu and kept getting up from the computer every few minutes to make a trip elsewhere. I think I was losing patience and posted it long before it was ready.
--Thanks again, Jan

Hi Jan, this image made me smile. Our two dogs do exactly the same thing. We try to make them sit in another room while we eat. You've nailed the focus on dogs eye and the plate of food. They really stand out. I really like the shot. It doesn't look like it was shot in low light.

If I can say something though, I feel it doesn't need the arrow. I wonder if the selected area is necessary as well. Or maybe greater feathering of the selected area. Just my thoughts, hope you don't mind.
Have a great day.

Joe

Sandra - thanks for commenting. And as I suspect you already know, this guy is well fed and well loved. He did get dog food while we were there and his mistress frowns on people feeding him table food.

subtle aren't they? not! they like to make eye contact too, just to make sure that you know that they know that if there is anything that you know that you don't want, then it should be conveniently set aside to be cleaned up..

Thanks, Cliff. Dogs survive so well because they can con humans. The smarter they are the better they are at manipulating us with "looks" and funny behavior.
Give Glen a pat on the head for me.

What a joy to see such a well behaved pooch. I must admit I've finally gotten mine to the stage where she won't move until you've told her she can have it, but as soon as well all leave the table, shes off looking for scraps!!
Thanks for the chuckle, Jan, and I hope you are feeling better soon.

Thanks, Liz. This dog was amazingly polite and used only the eyes as a begging tool. No close approach, no jumping, no whining. He also would not lunge for anything that fell on the floor; in fact, he would only take morsels offered. Well trained and very lovable.

It must be something to do with the English cats, this is the second one I've had like that. She is very vocal too if she doesn't get food. :)

Meg -- This guy was polite and not assertive at all. But the look he was giving us would melt your heart. Having had a number of cats, I can honestly say that I have never run across a cat assertive about food. Very unusual I would say.

My cat does just the same thing but she's a bit more cheeky about it. :)
