This one is named Plato, Annemette. Socrates was much larger. Petting is not a good idea since the hairs are poisonous . . . though really nothing more than an irritant to humans. The bite, if it bites, is a bit more than irritating. Some species are MUCH more aggressive, but this one is realtively nice and much prettier!!

They're really beautiful Todd . . . and I've only seen one bite once decades ago. They bite if frightened or to eat. They cannot eat a human and . . . well . . . without a skeleton . . . a fall can often be fatal. In the 70s a girl was holding one and then got frightened . . . dropped it . . . then caught it in mid fall to save it's life. She did save it . . . but it bit her good! Don't think they naturally travel that far North though. Thanks for the comment!

No es una problema mi amiga. Usted ve Alicia. . . ¡ELLA tiene la araña - no mí!! ¡LoL! Ellos sólo muerden para comer o si en el temor. Ellos no pueden comer un humano. Trato de no espantar la araña. Heheheheee.

~~GRIN~~ Now that's a good lookin' arachnid Doyle...:)))
The wonder of it is all there in the facial expression... Those banded legs are so striking...
Really nice no feathers, no fur Sir...:)))
Onie...
Sure the one I kept carefully catching in a jar and putting outside (at others request), knew I was a sucker... Only had five legs, 2 in. across, probably in a barney in an eave somewhere... :) Would be back inside a few hours later... until one day, almost a year down the relationship, it didn't return... :(

Good B/W...creepy subject tho' i have great respect for all creatures great and small...that is as long as some of them keep their distance...LOL...i actually held a slightly smaller one like this at a reptile/arachnid exhibition, but didn't like the feel of it when it moved.... *if you get the chance,go here to wish AL a HB: http://www.usefilm.com/image.asp?ID=1266259&CID=6594285

If I ever had a spider like that in my hand I'd want someone to take a photo too. No one would ever believe I did it. YUCK!
Looks great in B & W and the details and coloring on the spider.
