City - Lindisfarne State - NORTHUMBERLAND Country - United Kingdom
About
Lindisfarne Castle is situated on top of a volcanic mound known as Beblowe Craig.
One of the most distinct and picturesque features of the North East, it can be seen for many miles around... On a clear day (unlike the day this shot was taken) you can see the neighbouring castle at Bamburgh.
The castle was built in the mid sixteenth century using stones from the demolished Priory, some of which still stands looking out across the bay to the castle itself.
Not always reachable, as Holy Island is cut off from the mainland during high tide, it's a formidable sight & now open to the public under ownership of the National Trust.
A real favourite place that I love to visit I like the atmosphere in this shot Sue showing that this place can be cold and wet as you normally see shots of it on a clear day We are really lucky to have so many photographic hot spots
