Yes, Frank, I remember the discussion. I had a second look and that effect is not due to photomatix but present in the original exposures. Eb

As I recall, some discussions about the previous version of this photo focused bright areas "photomatix artifacts" along the tops of the trees at the right. So, my suggestion was that Photomatix can be adjusted to eliminate or minimize that effect.

Thanks for stopping by to comment, Frank. Could you be specific about what photomatix artifacts you are referring to? I did some unique sharpening which might be what you are referring to. Otherwise, I like the lighter mood which is not so dramatic but instead magical.

In this version the superb contrast in the foreground and drama in the mountains are lost! The Photomatix artifacts can be controlled with more light smoothing or by dodge/burn or cloning. You might try layer masking channels that need more control in the composite image. Here green and blue might be good candidates.

Way nicer version Eb. The grey skies that the photomatrix software gives us can be so dreary and unreal. Very much more suited to my taste. Well done.

An excellent image Eb! Lovely monotones and a light atmosphere. Very well composed with enough depth with the fog rolling in over the distant hills. Very nice! Joggie

I do like this better. And what was showing up as 'blending noise' above the hills in the other one is shown here just as fog coming through the valleys. I still think more contrast would serve it better. But I can understand you preferring a more 'monotone' presentation, as well. I think, bottom line, it's a good photo. It's interesting.

I think I like this one the best of all, Eb! The exposure here suits the image of a snowy day, with the lighter feeling over the more distant horizon. Of course I wasn't there to see the original scene! Dave.
