About I was about to leave because this gator was just napping away and as I'm putting up my camera in my truck see him and was able to run over and get the shot.

a monopod is of a great assistance!
a tripod used as a monopod is a good way of saving money. mono-tripod is something that makes a husband proud of his wife ;)

Your absolutely correct on the refelection part. I have several pics of this I'll look and see if I have a better one of the reflection and less background, but yeah I was just lucky enough to get anything.
I do use a tri-pod on pretty much everyone of my shots unless it's a bird in-flight. I actually had the tripod sized alll the way down and folded up using it as a mono-tri. heheh
Cheers!

what a nice catch!
i'm not sure if your guy was yawning or asking for food ;)

hmmmm .. i think you sacrificed the lovely reflection in the foreground for the background, which doesn't really add much to the composition. i can understand that you had to rush to get that pic!

pay more attention to the composition, sandy! it's the only thing that you can't leave to the camera. speaking for myself, i trust the exposure system of my camera. i usually set it to Aperture Priority (to decide on the Depth of field -another thing that you can't leave to a camera)and concentrate on the composition.

Hi Sandy,

Actually, your exposure is great, so I don't think the shutter speed was a problem. You have great exposure on the mouth, which I think is the focal point of the picture. Any brighter and you might have lost some detail in the yawn. What may have helped here is a lower ISO (which would have necessitated shutter and aperture changes) to get rid of some of the noise. You may have also gotten a more interesting picture if you had included the entire reflection in the photo. Just some minor suggestions on a beauty of a pic.

Thanks Todd. I actually wish I used a slower shutter speed, but I had it set higher for the duck shots earlier and was loading up when I saw the mouth open. Yes, I'm slowly getting a little more familiar with the camera but I think I will still need a newer lens more suitable for the camera. I'm getting some good practice in though. In fact I got out of school early today so I think I'll head back out today. These darn osprey though. I see them almost every day eating a fish/rat on top of a pole but I cannot get within 150' plus from the pole to get a pic and they fly away. :) Cheers

Sandy,

Nice shot! You seem to be getting in some practice. Hope you are successfully finding yourself familiar with your equipment.
