Nicely done Michele . . . you have some Jpeg artifacts . . . When I was new to digital I did too. I'd save and compress, even at high quality, and they'd pop up from time to time. It seems to happen more often when shooting for a number (uhhhh . . . like 400k? - LoL!). I'd save and see 512k, reduce a leeeetle more and save and see 465k, reduce . . . save . . . reduce. Blech! The multiple saves have caused Jpeg artifacts. Instead using "Example.jpg" . . . (use):
Save As < Example-UF.jpg
NOW . . . if it's 512K . . . Go Back to the ORIGINAL Example.Jpg and reduce it again . . . but a bit more this time . . . and again
Save As < Example-UF.jpg
(It will let you overwrite the old one.) When you get the reduction where you want it . . . you will have saved exactly ONE time from the original. And the original is untouched!! :)

Anyway . . . this composition is excellent . . . I can see it as a desktop wallpaper. Love these Hawaiian images!! ;)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Well John You showed us the back of the orchid, now I show You just the tree trunks ..lol !!
Honestly the previous image has the tops of the tree's and if you put them together you would have the whole image--- they were just too tall- plus I wanted to be creative too:))
Cheers,
Michele~

Great work Michele.. well done an amazing composition with very beautiful color contrasts and vivid colors.. maybe it would have been better to crop off the tree branches from the right.. maybe a tad distracting.. a great shot anyway.. very well done 7/7

My very best regards,

Hi Joe, this normally happens to me when I am trying to down-size to 400 pixels for up-loading and I want to get as close to 400 as I can-- I have recently started to delete the in-between ones...and will take up your suggestion about different locations... Much appreciation Joe- ( one for large- one for small) That's it !!!!

Michele, one more thing, rather than save multiple images, copy the image to various locations.

Thank You Joe for the great explanation..Yep I see the degradation... and I do know why now as I have saved these images in several locations---woooooo bad me , wrong thing to do ... but now I know better. I really appreciate your time and thorough explanations that really help me understand so much more Joe-- You are a great UF friend :)) I appreciate You very much my friend.

Hi Michele,
Do you see the pixelly looking patterns in the sky beside the 3 trunks on the right? I call these patterns digital compression artifacts which is a degradation of the image quality caused by using too low of quality setting when saving in a compressed or lossy file formate like jpeg. Also, repeated saving of jpegs compounds the problem by further degrading the image and creating more visible artifacts. When saving a jpeg there should be a quality setting option, usually a number ranging from 1 to 10 with 1 being very low quality and 10 being the highest. Usually, 8 or better will give you an image without visible artifacts. The trade off is file size. The higher the quality the larger the file size. Once you have transfered images from your camera to the computer you should not save that image again with that original file name. If you do this then you will always have an image of the highest quality to go back to. When I want to edit an image, with a name such as IMG_10001, to resize or adjust the light or crop save that image with a different file name such as "IMG_10001 crop pp 850x567", this tells me that it is a modified image and gives me some idea what I've done. It leaves the original intact.
You could capture raw images or save as a tiff file which both use lossless data compression or are uncompressed. Both of these file formats are much larger than jpegs. To find out more check out these terms in Wikipedia,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAW_file
Hope this helps,
Joe

Thank YOU for the kind compliments Joe but I don't know what digital artifacting is tho ?
I hope it is not like disinigrating because I don't have these images saved on disc- and after a few moves on my pc they don't look quite the same:((
Thank YOU Again,
Best wishes, Michele~

OHHHH Holland sounds wonderful-- Ok... Let me get this straight now- You say OUR cold horrible weather blows east-ward to Holland-- BUT You don't like that- YOU like it Warm & sunny as it is now .... so I should make sure that the horrible weather blows to the west ?

Right riny :)) If I could I probably would :)) How nice , I am getting the weather report agin :)

I will tell you that the shooter in the Virginia
Massacre
was a student and also very brutal and strange so say his roomates... Each person shot was shot at least 3 times--- one class-room had 17 dead- he just walked in and randomly shot first the professor, then went down the isles.... It is soooo saddd... he was Asian, and had a record for stalking women ......

Your friend holding the wind back for YOU,
in dark, cold, rainey Oregon, USA, Michele~

Another super shot Michele, you have a very good eye. The sky is very attractive with the cloud bank on the left mirroring the land form in the distance. The shadows in the foreground give validity to those tree trunks to ensure the viewer that they do have a tops. Some digital artifacting going on in this one, not sure why. You can see it along the sides of some of the trunks. Very nice work my friend.
All the best,
Joe

Hi my dear Michele,The weather in Mauli is much better than in Oregon...

I read about very bad weather in the USA.
Cold, snow, tornado's, heavy rainfall.

But over here in Holland it's hot it's 26 degrees and 4 weeks dry
Highest temp.over daytime became 29-30 degrees.
Sunshine, blue sky, people on the beach.
Its a April record!!

It's very rare weather not only in our country.
But the USA is such a big country, so i don't know if there are states with "normal" temp/weatherconditions.

We have to watch the weather because mostly wheater from the east of the usa with easternwinds are coming over the ocean to the western side of the european countries.

But please, try to blow all of you the clouds and rain to the west-side of the usa. ;D
i prefer warm and sunny weather :):) Your friend, riny:)
