Superb mood in this image, Dave! I like the suggestion of movement in the gondolier as well as the perspective path. It is interesting to contrast the warm tones of the background with the cold tones in most of the image.

Lucky you to be there to capture this great night shot! My oldest son was in Venice a few years ago. He had a lot of great stories with his pictures. He only did point and shoot stuff, but you can still see how beautiful it is there.

Very very unusual coloring, in all those blues of the water that continue up to the houses, Dave! It makes it very silent and a bit mysterious too, especially when I see the yellowish lights at the depth. Though the gondolier and the gondola are almost black silhouettes on a rather dark background they still have the necessary strong contours that make them absolutely visible. That great details of the sea ripples in those colors add something strong to the image, something from the atmosphere of returning home after a day's work. The buildings at the depth are a bit "suddenly" cut - perhaps some other framing/cropping could let them be there as wholes?

This is superb my good friend. I love the monochromatic effect of the foreground and the distant colour tones from the lamps and their reflections dancing on the canal's surface.
