I decided that the Olympus SP550UZ was just too frustrating when used at long focal lengths. Trying to capture images of birds or 'planes against an otherwise plain background was almost impossible as the AF just wouldn't lock onto the target. This might not have been too bad if the MF worked, but as soon as you set it to the correct distance and pressed the shutter button - it went out of focus!
So I've got myself a Pentax K100D instead. A much bigger beast but I'm really warming to it's crisp images.
Looks like your getting along with the new DSLR very well, Neil! There are definitely some things they're just better for and it is frustrating running up against the limitations of the "point and shoot" cameras, even the more advanced prosumer models. Dave.
