Hi Dave. Yes, I was in your neck of the woods. I love the southwest, particularly northern New Mexico. This was my sixth visit. and I still haven't seen everything I want to see. Guess I'll have to go back again, huh?
I'm sorry to hear about the bark beetles. It seems that here, on the east coast, we managed to protect our trees (fairly well) from the gypsy moths, so perhaps something can be done. Just a few weeks ago, my daughter was telling me, "Don't step on the catterpillar" -- and I responded that I should -- because I recoginized it as a gypsy moth catterpillar. Even so, I couldn't bring myself to kill it right in front of her.

So you were just in my backyard, ey?
Interesting that you caught 2 dead trees in this. My son just called me tonight telling me about this problem in the Rockies. Bark beetles are destroying the forests, and supposedly will totally ruin them within 5 years. It is making big news in Denver.... I'm leaving for Colorado tomorrow and he told me to check out all the damage. Now I see it here in your photo. Wild.
