Thank You Maggie, for your input. Yes the lighting was a problem due to the brim on the hat shading his eyes. It was taken with a Polarizer filter. And it was also, taken at 4:30 in the afternoon. Did not use a tripod(he was in a hurry to go get his date) but photo doesnt look soft in person. Must be a bad scan... thanks again

Hi Donna *smile* I like the setup here and the pose but you have had to deal with a very hard lighting situation here. I'm guessing that this was taken close to noon which has created a very high contrast situation. If you could have shot this in the morning or afternoon you would have had less problems with the extreme shadows and bright spots.
Another thing that you could have done to reduce the glare in the car windows is use a Polarizer filter and it would have also saturated the colors to make this high contrast situation a little less obtrusive.
When taking images like this outdoors, dont be afraid to use a flash to fill in areas that are shaded .... ex. the subjects eyes under the shade of the brim of the hat.
Did you use a tripod when taking this image...it seems a bit soft but that could also be in the scan. Hope i have helped you see a few things that you can watch for next time you are shooting. You did a good job here for the situation that you were shooting in...look forward to seeing more of your images...*smile*...Maggie

Nice shot. Nice pose, and background/prop choices, I like it very much, wish I had a prom pic like it, a little dark on the face, but I assume it's naturally lit, in which case it's right on.
