About Worth it this day to get up early and see the light. 20mm perfect for my purposes to condense the scene into my personal drama. A fire years ago in Staten Island left this romantic ruin.
The slide was under exposed and with PS I was able to achieve my coloristic vision. I don't think I saw the possibilities when I first shot it. Thank you PhotoShop!!!

Thanks, Dan, for your generous comment. Morning light is magical, but I have to admit to enhancing it a bit with PhotoShop. Nice to hear from you. I appreciate your photos with dancers.

Dear Petros Stamatakos, I appreciate this comment more than I can say. It led me to your blog and website. You are doing fantastic work.

Do you manage your own site. I am trying to build my own and not be managed by someone else. I especially liked seeing excellent slideshows of weddings. I have some from New York and New Jersey that I would like to post. Any advice for the site?

I have not yet joined Utube, but I realize that is as essential to video as usefilm is to stills.

Your friend, Leora

Thanks, Bill. There were several versions and this is the one I liked best. I am hoping to have my website up and running soon. Any advice?

Excellent work there Leora :-)

Thanks, Sheila. My partner surprised me with this intense, colorful effect in PS which I liked better than the original which I took in soft light at sunrise.

Glad you like it. And best regards...

Very nice Leora. Great lighting and the colors are fun!

Thanks for your interest, Guy. The setting is the ruins of a pier that used to bustle when Staten Island had its own amusement park ... unfortunately destroyed by fire.

My husband did the PS work and pushed the envelope with the colors. The young lady is from Canada and we were both photographing her for a client.

That's true, Jorge. I used to have my print lab and now I just need PS - now I feel closer to working with an artist's palette -- sometimes frustrating, but also exhilerating. There are so many possibilities!

Have a great day!

jorge carvalho jorge carvalho   {K:6262} 5/28/2008
Exactly, what this people dont know its that the 'old school' photographers could do all these tricks and more, in the laboratories...and PS is just the reproduction of an laboratory of photography....

Leora Long Leora Long   {K:11135} 5/28/2008
Dear Jorge, I thoroughly appreciate your additional comment.

I believe that the end justifies the means, but some want you to believe that you have to be true to the raw image. I would rather be true to my inner vision than to the technology of the day.

Thanks, again.

And this is one good example of how an exagere in treatment had a good result in final impact, very well.

Hi, Michalis. It is nice to hear from you again. The original film was not over-exposed, but more even in tone from highlight to shadow. I felt it was lacking something, so on the computer I actually started experimenting with PS. I liked the color and contrast here so much that I posted it.

A happy accident. This digital version was much more like the intense feeling of the sunrise that I experienced than my original result on film. Even a little surreal.

You have many beautiful available light photos posted in you portfolio. I hope everyone goes to them.

Excellent shot. Very nice tones and lighting. Maybe a bit over-exposed at some areas of the frame.
Well done,
Michalis

That's a good observation Jayabal. I am rarely satisfied with the color that comes out of my digital camera or my scanner - this was scanned from Kodachrome. And nothing is ever bright enough for me, so I use PhotoShop to bring it closer to my mind's eye. It really felt that warm on the early morning.

I appreciate your commenting.

I have been fortunate, because in New York City there are many places to rent cameras and lenses, my favorite being Alkit Photo.

But I believe you can go online or to the yellow pages to find a camera store that rents photographic equipment in the Houston area. I hope it is not unique to New York.

Good Luck!

Well the colors are absolutely brilliant, not to mention the composition - you did very well.

That wide lens you're looking at is awesome, I myself like fisheyes, find the panorama & distortions very appealing, and as you currently have my eye on one...the 10.5 fisheye.

By the way, heard of rentals...how do these work?

Leora Long Leora Long   {K:11135} 12/2/2007
Thanks, Noemi. The colors are owed to PhotoShop enhancements. It looks quite ordinary without post-production.

I favor wide angle lenses for composition, this being a true 20mm on film. Would be 30mm on my digital, so recently I had to rent a 17mm - would love to get a Sigma 10-20mm.

I am glad you like it. Your friend, Lee

Beautiful and romantic.Appeared to have too much colour and saturation at first glance but as I kept looking, the pose, light,bg ,colour and dress all came together as a whole.Good work.

Paul, you have made my day! I am glad you like it so much, as I have broken some rules here. The wide angle to distort the figure and make her look taller and the oversaturation. But I stand by it, especially with your support.

Thanks, my friend :)

Hi Lee,
This is a striking image, you have achieved magic depth through colour of the model, the pole she is leaning against and the sky, this really leaps out at the viewer. Great pic.

Peter :)

Dear Gust@vo, I am glad you find it romantic. It was exciting to put these elements together.

I also like that you find it elegant. The dress was borrowed from a designer friend of mine. I did not know that it would work so well in this scene.

I appreciate your thoughts. Un abrazo otro.
