Hi Ratul, I do know a few photographers using the 400D and either the 100-400L or the 400 5.6L, The 5.6 Is a bit sharper but you do lose the zoom feature, It also takes a 1.4X TC better than the 100-400. If I had to make a decision 70-200 Is a great lens but really loses IQ with a 2X attached and is short with the 1.4X, I really think I would go with the 100-400 as it is the most versitile, and has IS so you will be out shooting in lower light, the ability to zoom out on closer subjects, anything large that can fill say 33 percent of the frame will be very sharp with this lens, small birds and birds in flight you may notice a very slight sharpness difference between this and the 400 5.6, but nothing you cant sharpen up in photoshop.
It is a tough decision, as the 400 5.6L is 500.00 cheaper and a bit sharper though 400mm only.. but I would not consider the 70-200 a option for nature..

superb as usual ..
dear marcus
i need your suggestion regarding a serious matter . i'm planning to buy a "L" series canon telephoto lens . but i don't have enough funding to to buy a prime , instead i have planned to buy a 100-400 l is usm , do you have any idea how it will perform with a eos 400d ? or else i can buy a 70-200f/2.8 l is usm , with an 2x tele converter . will the use of a tele converter reduce the quality of the image drastically ? plz suggest ...if you can think of any other option plz let me know .waiting egearly for your reply best regards
arijit.
(ps:i intend to use this lens for birds and wild life.)
