Hey Ashley, I was looking through your portfolio and noticed a lot of attention on your re-worked train tracks. I read what Harry and some others had to say and I think they are talking more about perspective during shooting and not necessarily in editing. Standing up on something shooting downward, shooting from prone or lower position so that the perspective is upward adds impact to a photograph. Unless you carry you a tall step ladder some situations just won’t allow you to do that. In this photos case if you could have shot from a higher position the tallness of the trees would not have been so evident, but the big thing is working the perspective with the two parallel lines of the tracks it seems that there must have been an incline on your left because that left the tracks skewed. I straightened and cropped and had to do some creative cut and stitching to keep the house, but see if this might look better to you. Editing cant do everything shoot a lot and don’t be afraid to lie down or climb up to get a different perspective and have in mind the perspective you want or that you’re hoping for. Sorry about the long windedness but i love teaching things, hope no one disagrees with me too bad. Keep shooting! My regards, Coach J

Hi Ashley, as you can see despite your correction with the shadows the asymmetry is more visible of course had recommended this experiment but also wanted you play to help you crystallize your own opinion. I’m not sure if you have seen some of my perspectives. If not please take a look don’t have to comment just see what you might learn! Also ground perspectives like this one require great symmetrical balance personally not my fever ones cause to intense for the eye! If you retaking try little higher to!! I hope you understand me:) Good luck! Harry

Thank you Erin for your kind comment. :) I am indeed a young photographer, and I haven't been at it for too long. I shot my first photo back in the summer and have been going since then. I have realized how much I really love it. I am planning on sticking with it for a long long time. :) Thanks again for critiquing! Best Wishes, Ashley

Harry I thought I would try the technique you discussed earlier (option b) and I’ve posted my attempt here, I understand that with the lines of the track moving down the center I need some balance but I don’t know if my cloning of the trees to the right managed that to any degree. If this is not what your talking about would you mind manipulating the photo and posting it in a reply with some pointers as to how you managed it. I appreciate all the help I can get, I’m trying to improve with my editing as well as my actual shooting. By the way I’m going to shoot this again with the things mentioned in mind. Thanks, Ashley

I think the treatment you have done to this shot is right. The perspective of the rails to infinity is a very common theme on photography, but you have had a very good idea applying some changes to the original shot. Good work and nice image! -jordi

Since you ask for what the thinking is of your work I tell you :) The left part it's really great why? Because visually the house and the parallel little trees are looking far more visually united! The right part of the lifted rail seems uneven can say its ok but the bulky shadows of the trees had unbalance the over all perspective! (a)You can go back and take it again...(b)Or you can resize the right shadows...Try it:):) Harry
