About This is my cousin, Lindsay. I used candle lighting, as well as my flash-- simply because I didn't know how to keep it from automatically popping up. Now that I know how, I wonder what it would have looked like without the flash. The picture is in the 'intimate portrait' category because it shows the serious side of Linds that hardly anyone sees.

A little fill flash helps many snapshots, especially those where flash is 'not needed'. Although you could argue the flash here is overpowering, I still like the emphasis on her expression. Most high end cameras will allow you to dial in the degree of fill, and I usually keep mine set at (-)1 to try and prevent that 'paparazzi' look. My P&S camera will not allow that, but I can turn it on in bright light to fill in those high contrast shadows, and to give a catchlight in the eyes. I turn it on when 'not needed', and I try to keep it off when lighting is low.
This is another of your excellent portraits, Suzanne.

Hello Suzanne,

I think this is a very nice image. Soft.
ANd she looks good also. re: w/o the flash....try it see how it comes out. Probably nice and moody.

Every time I view a good portrait on this site it seems that you are the author. How many cousins do you have?
