Hi Doyle !

Thank You for the really helpful critique and I do admit to some lens movement ----:((

I should've not been in so much of a hurry - sometimes I get too excited and it sure does not help - ha!!

Regards,
Michele~

I like the white, I like the light and I like the angle of the shot. The shoes are simply adorable to emphasize that kid connection even more than mere size could with the colorful animals. Now the focal clarity has already been touched on so I won't harp on it but to wonder why it happened. Either the focus was off or there may have been some . . . ummmm . . . lens movement? :)

If that wasn't it, I might think about dropping off the F/5.6 to the next higher F/Stop. Remember the higher the F/stop the more narrow the opening and the deeper the depth of focus. Since you're already on aperture Priority the 1/80 sec shutter speed would automatically adjust and you'd maybe even be able to forget about the -1 step exposure compensation setting.

I like Robbie's suggestion about off-white and pale BG colors . . . sometimes I'll use a sheet or pillowcase and some hardware store clips . . . but you can do it on white. All you need is to snag that focal clarity!

Incidentally, I did see the side lighting here and it was a great choice over the on-camera flash. Good stuff girl!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Here is my 2 cents Michele....
Stay away from white background for now because when you manipulate it,white blows out so easily.Try image/brightness
contrast to pump up the colors but don`t blow out the 'whites'.I take it you are using PS7.
Take care
Robbie

Joe Brown Joe Brown   {K:23213} 2/5/2008
These colourful, well worn, little, shoes make an excellent subject for a still life. I wonder if taken from a lower angle the composition might be more interesting. Think you should play with this subject with more dramic lighting schemes, different arrangement of the shoes as well as angles and perspectives. I suspect the result would be very interesting.
All the best,
Joe

Great idea and very nice shot dear Michele .. Well done .. So.. had you uploaded the previous version onto usefilm ? I went all the way back to your pictures from 2006 but couldn't find it .. anyway .. This shot is really good .. The only thing I could suggest for improving it is to use a smaller aperture so both the shoes are in focus. IMHO the shallow DOF doesn't work well here... anyway.. this is just an opinion and the photo is really good as it is .. Well done ..
Warm regards ... aLi
