Yes I do ride my bike to and from work everyday, and part of the way is alongside a river (the Maas or Meuse), so a bit bigger than a canal... ;-D
This pic wasn't taken in my hometown, but in Amersfoort, where I went to attend a conference for work, taking my (small) camera with me for you'll never know what you'll see/find/run into... ;-D

Great to see this on your way to work. Do you ride your bike? I am told many do. When I was in Amsterdam I saw a lot of bikes and a lot of canals - kind of like Florida, where I am at present.
