About	Cappella Ducale del Castello Estense. Ferrara. La Cappella Ducale fu realizzata nell’arco di un anno, tra il dicembre del 1590 e quello del 1591, per volontà di Alfonso II, quinto ed ultimo duca di Ferrara, figlio di Renata di Francia e di Ercole II d'Este. Fino ad oggi questo ambiente era noto come “Cappella di Renata di Francia” e veniva riferito alla duchessa calvinista per l’assenza di immagini sacre. Gli affreschi della volta con i quattro Evangelisti tra medaglioni recanti l’aquila estense non incrinavano tale convincimento perché ritenuti opera del pittore ottocentesco Giuseppe Tamarozzi. I recenti restauri hanno invece riportato alla luce, sotto le ridipinture e una pellicola di impurità, gli affreschi originali che le fonti archivistiche assegnano a Giulio Marescotti, un pittore della corte estense attivo a fine del Cinquecento.
